Maybe it's just me with my biases and tastes, and perhaps I've gotten too fixated on the issue. I feel deeply betrayed by a saga I once loved to madness.

So, it's better to let the facts speak for themselves and see how people react to them, to get a sense of the situation. Perhaps the majority prefers something different from what I do, and that's fair. I have no fear of being the odd one out. Being a creative, I can create what I like and accept that the kind of entertainment I desire is no longer being made, as modern productions cater to a different audience.

I kindly ask you to watch these two trailers back to back and vote for the one you prefer. If you feel like it, share the reasons for your choice, but it’s not necessary.

#1 is shit. I don't know who allowed the first 15 seconds to pass, but it looks atrocious, and it doesn't get much better later.

Producers or whatever at the start. Ruins immersion.
I don't know who thought using a damn handheld ballista at point-blank is a good idea, but it's not.
Cheesy one-liners and meaningless phrases.
Far too fragmented, stripped of any depth in favor of artificial character showcase.
Completely unrealistic combat.

#2 has issues too, but it's much better.

Completely unrealistic dialogue at times.
Unrealistic combat.

... What did they do to my boi? I knew they turned Dragon Age into a bad game, but... A cliched bad game? From this little tidbit, I feel like the characters will be very one-dimentional and boring.

Path Of Exile looks much better. The atmosphere that the creators tried to convey feels great. The characters... Eh, they feel a bit corny, but not as much as those from Dragon Age.

I think we should get rid of dislikes on YT and Steam completely. They are useless and toxic. :blob_cookie:
Obviously, we only need toxic positivity and a closed environment where there are no dissenting opinions and only people who agree with us, with plenty of back-patting. :blob_uwu:

In fact, neither trailer is perfect, and I can overlook the unrealistic combat. However, Path of Exile immediately sets the tone and atmosphere the game wants to convey, seriousness and danger, a brutal world. The trailer clearly tells me what to expect: horrors, violent battles, blood, consequences, and death. I am not safe. Clear inspiration from the first two Diablo games.

On the other hand, the Veilguard trailer, for the reasons you pointed out, makes it impossible to take the story seriously. This is one of the issues with millennial writing and taking inspiration from the MCU (not to mention the Fortnite/Pixar-style graphics, which may or may not appeal to some but, in my opinion, don’t fit the setting). The problem lies in the lack of stakes and the inability to tell a serious story without immediately lightening it with a joke.

How can you immerse yourself in a story that’s supposed to be epic if the fourth wall is constantly broken with silly jokes? It might work for an original IP aimed at a specific audience, but definitely not for a world set in a dark fantasy context. Moreover, the music is completely out of place. This terrible trailer gives me the impression that the game is not meant to be taken seriously. And I definitely don't think that was the creators' objective...

I agree.

The sad thing is that the game is even worse than the trailer, much worse. The gameplay is boring and repetitive, stripped of any tactical component, where companions are effectively just spells you have no control over. The dialogue writing is terrible, and the companions are one worse than the other, making it hard to get invested in them since they are unlikable and, above all, as shallow as a puddle.

Easiest voting in my life.

It looks decidedly promising and amazing. Even from this gameplay video, you can sense the passion of those who created it. Every pixel conveys soul. It’s clear that the developers love what they’re doing; for them, it’s not just a job, unlike in the big AAA game studios. It might not end up being a perfect game, but it’s worth having some expectations.

What surprises me the most is the clarity of the combat. Unlike Veilguard, even though there’s a lot happening on screen simultaneously, everything is comprehensible. The spells and abilities aren’t just random explosions of color, they have impact, weight, and convey their power. Every movement and sound is spot-on and makes the experience incredibly immersive. It’s very satisfying to watch and probably just as satisfying to play, though I’ll reserve judgment until I’ve tried it myself.
