I feel like my views are diminishing

I'm not saying my initial chapters are getting less views, however, more like the traction in my latest chapter simply pales in comparison to the first or even second chapter.
My stats aren't looking good, either, but I'll just stay positive and say this is normal because of my new schedule. I could try promoting my story hard again, but I'm still quite busy with my manuscripts.

Your story is probably just getting worse. It happens.
I don't think so, because my view count on Royal Road is still surprisingly consistent, and I haven't done review swaps in that site for a while.

Maybe the fact that such stories don't tend to do here as well as on RR has to do with the generell stats but even in that angle your story seems to do well, not even mentioning how that's normal like everybody else is saying.

On another site, I have a series that has 31 views (and my only "Like") on the prologue chapter, then 17 views on the first, 8, 10, 15(!), 9, 12(believe this was the same day I posted a cover so maybe that had something to do with it?), 12, 9 and - for the chapter uploaded Saturday, 7.
Not sure why some chapters are doing so much better than the ones before them...

You only have 7 chs. Most read the first chapter and bookmark it for later. I personally won't touch a book with less than 40 chs or so with a stable update. You will get views around Ch 20 or so and it will increase depending on your story.

Some readers will come and go. I also do this as a reader glossing through the first few chapters of a novel, and if I can't seem to immerse myself in the story (due to various reasons), I won't continue.

Cheer up brother. Your novel should increase in popularity as you release more.

Other people won't commit that easily like this guy said, fearing that they may end up on a cliffhanger or be disappointed that the novel was discontinued (like some novels of mine :cry:).

A lot of people say that - I look for ones that have between 10 and 20 chapters myself - that way it won't be too much of a time commitment to catch up...

There's another problem. You ever seen a new novel with less than 15 readers getting 3 5-star reviews? Something's sus.

Nah, I just a did a lot of promoting and asking for swaps and feedback. That's pretty normal if you have the drive to become successful in the future.

??Review swaps are like I give you 5 stars you give me 5 stars lol. You just did that. That's called a shortcut, not the drive to become successful in the future. But you do you, I am out. I wanted to give it a read, but nope. Those reviews aren't genuine. Anyone can see that.

Eh, I'll still try to stay positive. There's no point in moping about not getting enough traction as you used to forever.
Look, if you think your work is having diminishing reader count, take a look at mine.

It is normal, to be alarmed and for your views-per-chapter to drop as you progress in your chapters. But you also have to understand the trend nowadays. A lot of new readers have short attention spans, and is intimidated by what they call 'walls of texts.' There's also the concept of "I leave this story for a while until it builds enough chapters for me to binge read". It can be that, or it can also be something else.

Any case, I persevered (and finished my work) because I changed my goals. Don't be fazed by the response of readers to your writing, and keep improving until you can be confident of what you write.

Addendum: also, I kind of agree with Xcalibur's point. That's why I don't ask for swaps because even when an author claims to be 'unbiased,' there's this tendency to give rosy feedback to works where its author gave favorable review to the former. I do promote before, but stopped short of begging for feedback and swaps. I won't improve with those.

If you really want to improve on your writing, set goals and direction for yourself. Get a trusted beta reader or two. Have them read it, and base their feedback on the goals and direction you set. Reason is, not all authors are the same. All of us have our own bias on each and every aspect/element of a story, that's why you won't get anywhere listening to a 'rando's' advice.

So you asked for hollow feedback. That's not going to help you in the future my guy.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But the problem that I'm seeing with you right now is you are trying to make this a possible career, when at this stage, you should be writing a story that you want.

That's what I did and I was lucky enough to get readers who like my work.
Do you enjoy writing your story? Or is it a means to end.
