After posting my magical girl novel on RR I decided to just make a poll in celebration for reaching the 10th chapter tomorrow. This will not be common as the next time I’m doing anything like this is the 100th chapter… and I won’t be going through the trouble of posting a 100 chapters here until the novel is completed.

Basically just checking if it’s worth the effort.

My novel’s a bit of an oddball.

It’s called ‘The One Being Protected [Magical Girl Urban Fantasy]’.

The reason for my hesitation is simple.

People tend to dislike stories that have ‘meta’ in general and I’ve previously been on the end of a lot of negativity because of it. The story in question isn’t even in a Magical Girl’s perspective. She is a companion in the story.

The REAL premise is that Loki, the god of mischief, has distorted causality for the second time and is hunted by ‘The One Above All’. A man who isn’t tethered to any myth and is the source of all Mana throughout the universe.

He is telling this story because even this entity cannot find the protagonist of the story through his omniscience. So it becomes ambiguous whether the story being told is a lie to survive or real history. Loki speaks about his apostle.

Someone who ‘apparently’ saved Earth.

Narrating the tale of having given his time regression powers (with no real disadvantage if used correctly) to a failed protector of a magical girl. That, and he turned him into a girl just to mess with him. Wanting him to stay safe.

Of course, the protagonist chooses the hard road to save people rather than wisely exiting the story or reliving his best moments forever. Loki is so morally twisted that he probably wouldn’t have minded the MC joining the dark side.

Sounds good on paper but there is a slow burn that will happen early on to really get the story going. Introducing characters and setting the stage properly. Every regression taken seriously no matter how ‘ruined’ it is in his perspective.

I’m just gonna throw my main character for the sequel in the main cast too.

Not sure if anyone would appreciate that kind of story though. It is no ORV and the novel will be narrated by Loki from beginning to end. Knowing the ending might also be a bit anticlimactic.

Poll will only last a week and no take backs.

If you could post a story on the Royal Road without getting banned, it certainly won't offend the Scribble Hub.

Hell, you may be even able to post in on the Spacebattles and survive!

Just don't include any toucans.

There's no reason not to post it. At worst, you'll do it and get very little feedback, and you can focus your attention more on RR. But on the chance that it gets a good reception, then go for it. If you are afraid of potential critiques... well that's a separate issue.

Exposure is exposure, so why not post it and get word out?

Interesting. Sounds like a more complicated version of one of the stories I've been toying with (though the narrator, well, in his words he "drives a cab"... but he is about the most unreliable narrator who is not a schizophrenic serial killer that I've ever created, and will lie or hold back information from his co-MCs, his readers, and even his author if it fits the moment)... Though the "magical girl" there is a woman in her mid 20s...

Edit: I forgot Moderators existed.
Tony can be somewhat slow, since he is alone, but he is fair. If it is really a troll review, rating, or a hater, he will delete them. On a side note, if you can provide some sort of evidence, for example, a screenshot of a similar review left by this hater, the chances goes up even further.

I don't think the reviews can be removed.
There were a couple occasions when her removed them. I won't be able to find them, but it happened. Oh, and I talk about public cases, the ones that people talked about on SHF. I bet even more gets deleted on main site. There is a report button, and review guidelines after all.

Sounds interesting enough most peeps will drop it since it isn't monster of the week (doing) Magical Girl. Complex stories have their fanbase, tho.

And genderbender lesbian might get you a few more readers here than on RR.

No romance. Maybe for someone else but not the MC. Friendship all the way.
