Never really understood fanfics either, but at least they're writing something, I suppose.
Have you ever got so invested in fictional world that when the story ended you wanted more? Wondered what could happen next, or could have or would have happened if some small or major thing was changed? Perhaps even wanting to see your favorite character in some crazy outlandish scenario that could never happen in canon?

That's why people like fanfiction.

Most lack the talent or skill to even be considered writers. A good portion of the fanfics i've seen you can't get through the first paragraph, either due to a lack of paragraphs in general (the entire story is one long run-on paragraph) or it's so indecipherable that you need a master's in archeo-exo-linguistics to even have a chance at reading it.
