Oh~

I was actually thinking of it in a broader sense instead of limited to AG's canon and stuff~

Because like... If we try thinking of gods in AG, then we're restricted by the fact we can only make additive world building, so... Defining gods is basically impossible! XD

As for introducing the seffy... Try to nerf them hard I guess? XD

*inserts pat gif in my signature that I'm too lazy to fetch on mobile*
*Starts sticking as many skills as possible to Elaine before she gets nerfed*

Oh, as for what is mana~

That is a question for the philosophers, not the mages~

Does it matter what mana is? Or does it matter how to control it?

One can argue that it is gods' gift upon the world, or maybe the temptation of a fraction of divine power brought by the devil... But at the end of the day, isn't it just a mere tool to let us reach our goals?

It doesn't matter what it is, only what it does~
But what it is defines what it does and what it does shows us what it might be. And how are you supposed to use something you don't understand? Remember what happened to those that discovered X-rays, for example. Can people use electricity properly without risk while not knowing what electricity is?

I mean yes and no. I don't have to know that electricity is a flow of energy caused by electron charge differentials and such. All i have to know is that if I put a battery and a powered item with a metallic thing inbetween that powered item will work. Maybe not safely but it will.

Why do people want video meetings?!?!? IS my voice not good enough!?!? Why do I have to get dressed if I am working from home?!?!
Oh my goodness you’re amazing! :blob_hug::blob_hug::blob_hug::blob_hug::blob_hug:

As they say, the Peak is always lonely~
You can always do quest reports a few ranks down!

Party quests too!

Frankly the level curve isn’t supposed to be so steep that a rank D character is too OP for rank E monsters, etc.

Exams? When did I say that? Must be because I've been quite all of a sudden for a long time. Well I am a college drop out so I can't really say much to that on my defense.
I think they misspoke and meant to say Epsil!

I hope you’re doing well and staying safe in either case! :blob_hug:

Do I need to know the internal structure of a computer to post on Scribbly?
Do I need to know how a toilet works to flush poop away?

Or even in more complex things... Do I need to know how a given function works in programming? Or can't I just copy paste some formula in stackoverflow and it will magically work?

Of course if you know the intricacies of what you're doing, you have more paths available to you and you can try different things... Like modifying the code you took from Stackoverflow to better suit your needs and what not... But still, you don't need to do that in order to program~

I can make a big excel sheet with tons of uses just by knowing how to use IF and ROUND. But I can do more things if I know FLOOR and CEILING~

All that applies the same way to Magic, the extra knowledge is helpful and opens more options, but not necessary~
*Nods wisely*

Also, with all these side stories and whatnot, when will any of us actually get to do a party quest together? :blob_hmm_two:
Ikr!? The party quest records are still super low! XD

Pretty sure I only saw Alma say he/she has exams.

This assumes that someone, for some reason, has created an easy and instinctive to use magical system for everyone in the world.
Not really, it just assumes someone can teach you the ropes~

Again, if someone knows how to do magic with IFs and ROUND, then they'll teach their disciples how to do magic with IFs and ROUND.

If one of those disciples discovers CEILING and FLOOR, then they will have obtained knowledge beyond the reach of their master, and they might teach their future disciples that too... Or they might keep it to themselves and only teach IF and ROUND to their disciples too, who knows?

As long as you know how to manipulate it, you don't need to know the intricacies behind it. Maybe the person that discovered the FLOOR function of magic did so by diving deep down into the origins of the ROUND power and understanding it to its utmost... But they don't need to show their decades of research to their students in order to teach them how to use this part of the magical power~

It doesn't need to be standartized nor does it need to be widespread, as long as somebody teaches you the how, you can make do without knowing the what~

... Not to mention people that naturally manifest magic by instinct and stuff, those definitely are clueless about the what, but they know that if they think hard and try doing a poof, it will release a fireball~

:blob_evil: For me, I just use the hand-wavy magic.

You know, like the kind where you stab a doll and then the person falls over and dies.

I think I very rarely include mentions to "mana" or even consider the existence of mana -- but that's largely because I'm not as fond as I used to with attempting to science-ify magic. More recently, I've been leaning more towards notions like magic => non-deterministic, where science => deterministic.

Because if magic is deterministic (e.g. 1+1 always equal 2), then it's frankly just the same as the science of another world in the same way that electricity is science... in which case attitudes about magic should be exactly the same as Earth attitudes about science and lightbulbs and nuclear bombs.
