Hello fellow wattpad authors. I seek your advice. Well, I got some people who commented on my story. They were all like trying to ADVISE me on how to promote my story. So, one of them dm-ed me and told me if I was interested in promoting my story on Amazon kdp or Wattpad. She told me she was also an author. She told me she was the author of "Family across the street" which I didn't believe as a matter of fact. So, did any of you have similar experience?

I figured they were scammers lol. Those fugging scammers. How could she think anyone would believe she was the author of a popular novel having 18 followers? ?‍♀️
Tis their technique to ring you in. Back when Wattpad still has PM feature, I keep receiving similar messages.

Some would even start by a seemingly innocuous comment or PM praising your work. If you follow up by simply thanking them, BAM! Unsolicited self-promotion.

Yeah, she was telling me that her book was on Amazon kdp and she earned money by just promoting it. I could do as well by collaborating with her. Like hell I would!

Heh, lotsa scammers and parasite on that site thought authors there are desperate for fame, and money, or simply young enough to be led on. Hence, the aggressive and scammy promotion techniques.

@Nevafrost anw, do be careful. They are not limited to Wattpad.

Yeah, thanks. I was having fun with them lol. They really think I would fall for that. Nope, I ain't. Those filthy scammers can do anything for their own interests.

I know a guy who, working with a friend, managed to get $200 out of one of the "Nigerian Princes" before turning the whole record of their interactions over to the FBI (who said "Good work on getting something from these guys. It's better than we usually do").

I was hit with the "other side" of this scam about a month and a half back - was given a too-good-to-be-true job offer that required me to buy about $12,000USD in hardware and software in order to do the daily tasks (which, I suspect, would be to scam other people who were either looking for jobs or hoping to write... if there even were any tasks).

Them scammers are up their old trick on that site, I see. Typical. I remember they do that all the time when I was still active there. I'm still there on Wattpad, just not really active anymore.

Lol, they are still doing their old job.
You get readers on Wattpad?
What readers? I don't have any. I guess they all are there for scamming people

I abandoned Wattpad already. Figured I'd rather stay over here and do better work.

I've had a TON of people message me on Wattpad asking to advertise or promote my book, but they're all scams. The easiest solution that I've found to get them off your back is to simply reply: "Thanks for advertising my book! You can support me further by donating to my Ko-fi/Patreon/Payal/etc.!"

This will easily get them to stop messaging you since the scammers all seem to be networked together.

Haha, it was a clever idea. Gonna try it on the next one.
