I want to post some videos on youtube but I have no knowledge about which video-editing tool being most suited for me.

This may be only a hobby thing so I can't financially commit to it so a free tool is most welcomed.

For the functions I want:

  • To remove audio from a clip
  • To cut a video into multiple clips
  • To patch multiple videos together into a longer video
  • To add audio to the video at certain time stamp
  • To add text on video like an explanation for the part or headings

The best one remains Adobe Premiere, not so much for its features or because it's the easiest to use, but because it's the most famous and widely supported. You can easily find guides, tutorials, resources, and plugins. There are alternatives, but in my opinion, they are a waste of time. It's better to learn to use the most well-known one.

Adobe doesn't even support Linux. Honestly, I'd advise against going the Adobe route since learning video editing software is a time-consuming endeavor. And given their terrible track record as a company—the recent AI controversy, just to name one—I feel the need to entrench into the Adobe ecosystem, especially since he is starting new and doesn't need the best of the best, to be quite unnecessary. Most creators can't switch precisely because of that.

Windows movie maker. :blob_sir:

Jokes aside, as everyone said, Davinci is your best pick and cheapest route, and it also has ample tutorials.

What do you mean by professional usage?
Kdenlive is a fantastic application. You can do most things you want via Kdenlive and easily; however, for a professional video editor, Kdenlive would be more or less a toy. Or that's what I've heard.

I still can't distinguish professional usage from just normal usage.

Um well, it is targeted towards creative professionals in mind. A hobbyist might have different usage, for example, using it only a few times a month and without any financial interest, compared to a professional who uses it daily and as a means of livelihood. The professional-grade software generally has more features professionals want, is more powerful and reliable, etc. Though this isn't to say it is better for a hobbyist. You probably are not going to buy the best drawing tablet even if it is the best if your use cases are completely different.

This is to say, the current pricing model doesn't make sense for a hobbyist.
