I don't think I've ever been as hyped as I was during that boss. The thing that comes close is Raphael's Disney princess moment in BG3, which left me baffled for a while. :blob_sir:

Madoka Magica. Like, there's a super impactful memorable scene that re-defined fiction every 2 or 3 episodes of that series. Just pick one.

Of particular note, Mami's death, "you just threw away your friend," and Sayaka's witch transformation. I suppose Homura's flash-back of previous timelines and how she's been in this time-loop trying to save Madoka all this time is a good one as well, but I don't know if it gains or looses strength for being the backstory for the premise of the entire series.

It's a show that re-defined the Magical Girl genre and also put it back on the map due to it's dark take on the genre. Of course it's going to have a freaking ton of memorable scenes.

Are you talking about the setting for Madoka Magica's true villain? If so, that's my thought. It's a good setting, but it does it's job as a setting and stays in the background. Tricky, considering that's something that'd be a pretty big reveal in any other series, but Madoka Magica has so many other things going on that overshadow it that it really manages to all balance out well. In order to do it's job right, the setting HAS TO stay in the background.

I think this is done all the better by the fact that the Kyubi cannot actually be killed or properly fought against. As such, it doesn't matter that we now understand their motivation for being so evil. We already knew they were secretly evil. We just have an explanation for why now.

Overall, yes, definitely memorable by this thread's standards and would deserve a spot on the list. But, to me, it actually speaks more to the quality of the series writing that it was tucked away in such a way that it did not leap to first of mind when thinking of memorable scenes from that series.

Nah, it is a different setting but similar theme, magical girl only dark. If you haven't seen it you might like it.

In fiction, Robert Bloch provided some of my favorites...

From a short story I don't remember the title to: "She's in the other room, decorating the Christmas tree..." (as decorations...)

From Psycho when they find Mother just before she attacks.

Ramsey Campbell's "The Count of Five" had a great moment when the Merseyside Burner realizes everything he did was the result of a prank gone horribly wrong and not a curse.

From comics (and the movie though it had more impact the first time I saw it), The Watchmen: "Stop me? Do you honestly believe I would be telling you all of this if you had any chance to stop me? It all happened, five minutes ago."

From a movie - not a single moment but the final point where everyone, including the MC, must accept the truth about the whole story in "The Sixth Sense" (funny story there - at the very beginning I almost figured it out, then got sucked into the story, and did not remember that there WAS supposed to be a twist ending until about five minutes were left, and, just as the reveal hits, realized that was the only possible twist it could have).

From another movie (if you can't identify which one ... well...): "Relax, miss, I've got you." "You've got me? Who's got YOU?"

I love a good reversal of expectations, though it can be overdone. or just a comic turn of events in something otherwise not really comedic. Sure some comedies can stick with you (saw one today with two beautiful moments - "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein"; the bit where they run into a room, push a bed against the door, and congratulate themselves for blocking the monster ... only to realize, as he opens it, that the door opened OUT of the room and the very last moment: Abbott: "Well, with Dracula, the Wolfman and the Frankenstein Monster all gone, there's nobody left to frighten us." Vincent Price's voice: "Oh, that's too bad. I was hoping to get in on the excitement." A&C: "What? Who?" Price again: "Permit me to introduce myself; I am the Invisible Man")

Oh, and a very obscure one, from the rule book for the roleplaying game "Chill"
"Now picture the PCs in their room for the night, kept awake by something scratching, scratching, scratching at the door. It stops for a while, they hear something heavy moving around, then it starts again. All night long.
And then the sun comes up, streaming through the windows ... to reveal the scratch marks on the INSIDE of the door."

Eh, from the trailer, it looks like one of those Madoka Magica clones that took all the wrong lessons from Madoka Magica. As in, it can't just be "magical girl but dark." That's just being dark for the sake of being dark.

What made Madoka Magica good was the deep psychology and the way it critically analyzed everything about the genre.

What I'm seeing there is it's mixing "dark magical girl" with "if you die in the game you die in real life" themes. The first was done good once and got a bunch of cheap copy cats. The second has never been done well even once as long as it's existed to the extent the first time it was tried is still made fun of even today.

So, yeah. No thanks.

One of the early chapters of Mercenary Enrollment the Mc is hanging out at a GS25, and they're talking about bullies. The 4 guys are: former Mercenary/Assassin trained since he was 10, 2 bullies that did minor bullying like tripping, and their main victim. The former Merc had nothing to do with it. And the victim rails off about how he used to hate them.

You unlocked a memory for me! I had forgotten about this game. They don't make them like that anymore, and it's definitely a memorable, wholesome scene. :blob_uwu:

Raphael's performance is truly something memorable. It really impressed me. I already loved him as a character, but his boss fight in the House of Hope will always stick with me. That's why BG3 is such a great game.

?
Put down the smartphone!
I thought they were referring to the duck!

One of the few things that works in the Hobbit movies is definitely Smaug. :blob_uwu:
