Hello!!!!

For the authors that write fanfictions, do you consider every piece of fanfiction as an alternate universe for the source material that they are based off of or do you believe that there are some fanfictions that can not be considered in that way?

If it's a serious fanfiction, perhaps. If it's the classic wish fulfillment fantasy, then no, I would definitely not consider them as alternate universes.

I mean, why wouldn't it be an alternate universe? Most Fanfic don't follow the plot, and it has other characters that don't exist in the original plot/story. So, technically, it is another world apart from the original one. :blob_blank:Hence, an alternate universe where people wish to fulfill with the original characters while the plot changes to their desires.

You're basically starting a multi-universe without stating it happening.

It would very case by case. Sometimes "fan fiction" can become canon. And sometimes it may be better than official material. Sometimes it is used to retell an event from a different point of view and changes nothing but perception. But other times it must be viewed as an alternate version/parallel universe because it deviates wildly from the source (or is just downright awful ... but let's not get into THAT... :D).

Well... not all of them. Most, certainly. But some fanfics are canon compliant.

Heck, there's one series I wrote canon-compliant fanfic for that was a multi-author collaboration in the first place. If I was a more prolific writer, my fics could have been made canon. So, I don't see those as being an AU, so much as just something that happened in canon, but we don't get to see.

I know that you do not like reading such types of works. Feel free to ignore this post.

Is that for the first part of my question or for the later part of my question?
Yes.

I consider my fanfiction to be an invading universe with the goal of crushing the original and taking over. It is an act conducted on a metaphysical plane of memetic warfare. Every fanfiction is basically a violent assault upon the original. There are no alternate universes.

There can be only one.

Heck no to most of em.

No matter how funny, Naruto and Sasuke getting changed into girls wouldn't mean they ship. The Indra and Asura souls mean they'll never ship. It'll never be an AU because it breaks canon history. They're literally soul brothers.

As for a canon compliant scenario it'd be the Uzumaki clan getting annihilated, but the villages that attacked took the children and weaker women for their own "programs". Then again, the characters in Naruto were meatheads.

Hell there's OFFICIAL comics I wouldn't consider canon or AU for that matter.
Example: X-Men, Iceman suddenly being gay is out of character and breaks established canon decades long.

Dang Tumblr fanfic writers ruining things with their agenda and personal shipping head canon.

if it has nothing to do with the original series, then it's an AU. Some guy mentioned Naruto, so for an example, a story where they have no powers and they're not ninjas and it's just a story of them going school or something, that would be an AU.

But yeah, not all fanfictions are AU. I don't think my HololiveEN fanfic is one.

I'm writing a Naruto fanfic. In the loosest definition, sure. But personally no, unless kishimoto approves it, which he won't.

I'm writing the new blue archive fanfic here titles grey archive and yes I consider my work as alternate universe.

the source material have mc(sensei) which is basically the players and in my story it's the same.

also the characters and some events are the same but they will be facing different enemy this time so yes it is definitely same but different story altogether

Y'all aren't arrogant enough. Even if i wrote raw crack, that's canon as far as i'm concerned. End of story.

If it is a poorly written, self indulging smut crap, no.

I never want it to be related in anyway.

Also, that is like saying the porn doujins are all alt universe too.

I personally have a head canon that every fanfiction protagonist exists in an identical alternative dimension to the original, and the reason it they are in an alternative instead of the original is because if they existed in the original, they would ruin all alternatives and permanently affect the entire fictional reality.

As for my personal little works that I dabble in, they all take place in alternative universes with slight differences that can have surprising effects - like what if Izuku Midoriya wasn't a little bitch, a useless rag emotionally, or a doormat - what if they had different attacks, like instead of the Detroit Smash!, they had the Mississippi Dash!, Alaskan Bullet!, or the Arizona Impact!, which could be a long-distance coverage move, pressure-point attack, and axe-kick move respectively?
