Why are MOBA so addictive despite their hard mechanics

Damn, I already knew, but you’re a dick.
Don't talk like you haven't done that. Everyone does that every now and then. In case of Mobile Legends when you want jungle and your team picks a fanny or ling, don't tell me you haven't picked Hanzo just to get the kick out of it.??

I feel like I'm not achieving anything by playing them, and the "fun" is very forgettable. I dislike playing with other people on teams and would rather just play single player games. Though some MMOs are fine, I used to play more free online games when I was a teenager with no money. Now that I work and earn I just buy a bunch of games and play them instead (what I always wanted to do actually). Kids most of the time dont play free games by choice but because there isnt a better alternative that doesnt cost money, or because they're trying to get into a community and force themselves to play. Unfortunately whatever little money you end up saving will sink into these terrible games while you could have bought normal games instead. That's how these life services operate

MOBA’s like most multiplayer games… were mostly addictive if you felt you had knowledge of a build that others didn’t have.

I think most of the fun I got comes from building your character over the actual gameplay.

I only play Heroes of the Storm because my dead boyfriend introduced me to it in 2015. I like how it allows me to get a sense of interacting with others without feeling pressured to actually talk. I used to get on voice and everyone was all shocked there was a girl, but now I talk to my kid so much that I crave interaction with peers, but the last thing I want to do is talk.

I didn't used to have rules about how much I played, but now I can only play in a 2-hour window of time, and there are other thing I want to do or should do during that time, so if I lose, I go do those other things. If I win, I allow myself to keep my winning streak until time is up.

What's a MOBA? Is it a snek? It sounds like a type of snek. No step on ?.

On their own they are not as addictive. Addictive part is everything around them. Rating numbers, events, skins, lootboxes, battle passes, etc.
I was wondering about this. A moba just seems like playing warcraft 3 but only 1 unit to command.

reasons lol works:

social aspect
-each game start from scratch so you can play with your friends regardless of skillgap (on paper)
-you impress your friend with your rank
-you interact and "cooperate" with strangers to fill your loneliness. You get the feeling that you contributed to victory
-you flex your skills on others

game mechanics
-you get dopamine playing whack a mole
-it's a constant race against opponent to get resources, making all the minions you kill all the more meaningful
-the constant pace of powerspikes (leveling up and gaining items) which keeps you on your toes (Ah, i finally finished XYZ item/it's alright guys I reached my 0/10/0 powerspike/I'm lvl12 it's autowin/*Clang* feeding heartsteel addiction)
-you can knowledge check (mastering tactics better than your opponent like wave management or identifying correct windows of opportunities like if your lane can win lvl2)
-your experience can allow you to predict opponent's behavior, which can translate into net advantage with mechanical play potential (landing skillshots, opportunities for ambush, retreat path)
-ganks and teamfights are exciting highlights with high stakes
-you can bully opponent out of the game if you can maintain your lead
-lol has ridiculously low time-to-kill, allowing you to blow up enemies instantly with enough lead
-you can cook your own mathematically correct or offmeta build if you're not afraid of peer pressure and trolling your team

why you shouldnt touch lol
-people will smurf on you
-you also get blown up instantly
-it's ultimately a team game, so you will have to lose because your team is shit regardless of what you can do
-you can win lane and get murdered by the guy from next lane
-ranked makes winning more important than the enjoyment. Good games are entertaining, but in lol you might have to go through a miserable time to get a victory screen
-the game can be incredibly boring when both lanes play seriously without making mistake
-normal games are somehow also filled with sweaty try hard
-death timer growing into full minute as game goes
-if you're not a masochist, why would you play top, lose your early trades, get zoned for 20 min and bullied out of lane to be the team's bitch and scapegoat just so you have a <50% chance for a victory screen randomly popping out at the end? (unless you were matched with an inting Sion, kill Sion 10 times and still lose at the end)
-games can be lost in characters selection
-some characters systematically overtuned
-unless you play Kaisa, you don't really have a large wiggle room to stray from standard optimal build path and make meaningful choice to counter the situation without sacrificing late game

In conclusion, lol is a game for sadomasochistic people who likes to takes turn tormenting each others. If you are somehow addicted to it, I recommend you to seek medical help and better entertainment. Perhaps, consider replacing your social collaborative activities to something else than gathering in a bush to murder someone.

Yeti that's already built into the moba style. I don't think I've seen any that aren't like that. :meowsip:

Am really curious about this,i admit most of the times i get beaten up in MOBA but i always dive into them again considering my meager skils
I love playing Moba, just to see people rage for their own mistakes. I also like the different types of champion mechanics/skins/lore at times.

"Why didn't you help me?!"
"I'm across the map; it isn't my fault you ain't warding or have map awareness!"
"Reporting, crap jungler!"

Meanwhile, Top Lane is 1/15 without a single ward for his bushes.

"Why didn't you help me!?"
"You dove into the tower."
"Reporting, crap support!"

Meanwhile, ACD is 0/10.

:blob_sir: I usually don't respond to these people but feast on their tears, lurking in the game.

That satisfying wombo combo from a good tank initiation is addicting, though I always die a few moments later but the result is always worth it.
Needs to have a good coordination with teammates though.

The point was, there are other genres that are not like that.
If they are free to play, I think I've seen too many battle passes for them, if not a type of it. Even MMORPGs have them nowadays. One thing I see less and less of is loot boxes, but, uh, some still have those around, too.

None free-to-play games sometimes have it, too. :blob_no: But yes, others aren't like that.

Battle passes and loot boxes are two out of many things, some I didn't even mention. But out of those I did mention, rating numbers, events, skins. For example World of Tanks doesn't have any rating at all. Like none, zero. And it is smaller than Dota 2, CS2, or LoL. WC3 or SC2 doesn't have events, skins, but those are paid games.
