Since we have a thread devoted to the practicality of fantasy armor I figured why not have one about fantasy weapons. So let us know what you like, what you hate, and what you wish you could see more of in fiction.

I simply want some realism. Not every man who goes to war has a sword. No, peasants weren't armed with pitchforks and sent to war in their normal clothes. If you want to invent new weapons, go for it, just don't make them braindead weapons that are wildly impractical

Anyone who wants more realism can go and read or write low fantasy, or historical fiction. High fantasy is for people to let loose when it comes to cool factor. And if you equate desire for cool factor to forgoing logic, consequences, or other important parts of a story, you are... not a bright person. Plain and simple.

Small correction. You can use realistic weapons in high fantasy, it's not forbidenn. I'm just saying that high fantasy allows for unrealistic stuff, that's why you can do whatever you want.

I want more spears, halberds, axes, warpicks and early firearm. Simple as that, they are so often overlook.
We're of the same opinion, so I wrote my own story with those things.

Mechanical golems piloted by medieval humans and powered by magic.

Not enough guns and when it is guns it’s just flintlockes or canons on sailing ships

One of my abandoned fantasy stories was typical fantasy but with guns closer to 1890s tech. Still like the idea but the rest of the story kinda fell apart

Why do we always have the same thoughts? Are you a brother of mine?
It's a mystery of the universe.

Medival fantasy stories severely lack laser blasters and maglev hand-guns
It's the gnomes' fault, they just won't sell them to other races.

I like some big ass scythe.
So do I.

I once make a shield with a attached oversized magic wand that shoot fire bolt for felling dragon, and a mate of me call it Magical Pak 88. So of course I put it on a wagon and thus, born the horse pulled anti air artillery!
More Gnomish behavior.

Only magic staves are cool. Witch hat with a broom as well. Magic is the best weapon.

Anything other than a sword, swords are way overdone and so common in fantasy action. Anything else is a breath of fresh air.
