Chapter 1: A Melancholy Melody

Nuon Shalance, a graceful elf bard with unparalleled musical talent, is seated by the window of her cozy cottage in Inkarnum. With a distant look in her eyes, she delicately plucks the strings of her violin, causing a haunting melody to fill the room. The walls are adorned with cherished mementos and relics from a bygone era, showcasing the fervent adoration of a once-thriving fanbase for the enigmatic Smutty McSmutface. This reclusive bugbear author's R18 fanfiction novels held a significant place in Nuon's formative years. However, the dramatic emergence of Dramaticus has transformed Smutty into a languid opera singer, steadfastly disowning his scandalous past.

Nuon's eyes narrow in intense concentration as she vividly recalls the unsettling sequence of events that brought everything to this critical juncture: Dramaticus's unforgivable misuse of the Fate Note, callously manipulating destinies for his own twisted amusement. Her gaze shifts to the three partially written books resting on her desk, each a poignant reminder of the abrupt halt brought about by Smutty's unexpected career pivot. Despite the upheaval, a powerful surge of determination courses through her being. Nuon is acutely aware that finding the Quill of Destiny is her only hope to not only restore her favorite author's legacy but also to mend the very fabric of their world. If not for her own desires, then for to not let another book be unfinished!

Nuon stood up from her seat, the light glinting off the polished surface of her violin case as she slung it over her shoulder. With practiced ease, she secured her rapier at her side, the weight of the weapon providing a reassuring sense of purpose. Stepping outside, the streets of Inkarnum came to life around her, the hum of subdued activity serving as a backdrop to her determined stride. In her heart, her mission burned bright and clear: she had to find the Quill of Destiny and put an end to Dramaticus's tyrannical hold over Scribbly.

Choices

  1. Head to the Library of Lore: Nuon decides that the best place to start her quest is the vast Library of Lore in Inkarnum, where ancient texts and knowledgeable sages might hold clues to the Quill's location.(y)

  2. Visit the Tavern of Tales: Nuon opts to gather information from the Tavern of Tales, a popular gathering spot for adventurers and storytellers. Perhaps someone there has heard rumors about the Quill.

  3. Seek Out Smutty McSmutface: Nuon believes that confronting Smutty McSmutface directly might yield insights despite his current state. She decides to visit him at his opera house.:ROFLMAO:

Chapter 2: The Tavern of Tales
_fc6a15f5-041a-4c24-b68b-5aa693b16ee0.jpeg

As Nuon navigates her way through the lively and bustling streets of Inkarnum, she can't help but notice the colorful array of market stalls, street performers, and groups of townsfolk going about their day. Determined to uncover crucial information, her path leads her to the renowned Tavern of Tales. The tavern, steeped in character and known for its boisterous atmosphere, is a hub of storytelling and exchange. As she draws closer to the entrance, the distinct scent of ale and the harmonious sounds of laughter and animated chatter envelop her, creating a sense of warmth and camaraderie that serves as a poignant testament to the community's resilience in the face of the ever-present threat of Dramaticus.

In the heart of the tavern, a lively spectacle unfolds. Adventurers hailing from all over the city are engrossed in recounting their tales of bravery and misadventure, reminiscent of the old days when they were able to freely spin their own tales. Making her way through the crowd, Nuon approaches the bartender by the name of Garvin Polishedale, a stout and affable dwarf. Known throughout the land for his unrivaled understanding of local gossip and his remarkable skill in drawing out even the most reticent of storytellers by leaving comments under their stories. Garvin is a fixture of the bustling tavern scene, one who was always here and probably always will be.

Nuon orders a drink and strikes up a conversation with Garvin, who listens intently as she explains her quest to find the Quill of Destiny.

Garvin Polishedale: "Ah, the Quill of Destiny, eh? That's a tale I haven't heard in a while. But you're in luck, lass. Just last night, an old traveler spoke of a clue to its whereabouts. He said he found clues that there were old stories etched into the wall of a cave near the Whispering Woods. Tales that were written by the Quill! It could be worth checking out. Or, you might want to speak to Old Man Fiddlesticks. He's a regular here, always babbling about ancient artifacts and such."

Nuon takes a moment to ponder her next move.

Choices

  1. Investigate the Whispering Woods: Nuon decides to head out immediately to the Whispering Woods, hoping to find the cave and the clue etched into its wall. (y)
  2. Speak to Old Man Fiddlesticks: Nuon chooses to stay at the tavern a little longer and speak to Old Man Fiddlesticks, who might have more detailed information about the Quill of Destiny. (Charisma check --16+3)
  3. Gather More Information: Nuon decides to mingle with other patrons in the tavern, hoping to hear more rumors or gather additional clues about the Quill. (Wisdom check -- 10+0) :ROFLMAO:

A reminder for future choices: When there is a saving throw, check Nuon's stats (use the second post; there is a table of contents there that can take you to it)

I also included our character's relevant stats so you can see the required stat and how Nuon is at the moment. Right now, it is not that big of a deal, but if it comes to fighting or later decisions, it can cause death, too.

+ I am open to ideas; if anyone wants to do something that is not a choice but you think would be great, just drop it, and if enough people like it, we can do that instead.

Charisma Check: Speaking to Old Man Fiddlesticks

_f4858ecb-ffef-47eb-97e8-9a0df2d5ffc1.jpeg

Nuon, as a daring adventurer, decides to linger at the rustic tavern, drawn to the enigmatic figure of Old Man Fiddlesticks. Scanning the dimly lit room, her keen eyes lock onto him as he sits hunched in a corner, carefully sipping from a tankard of ale. The tavern buzzes with activity, but Old Man Fiddlesticks exudes an air of tiredness resulting from his age that no longer allows him to shine like his surroundings.

With confidence and poise, Nuon approaches him, her warm smile and compelling storytelling abilities at the ready. As she begins to spin her tale, her hope is to captivate the old man's interest with her words and charm and to make him spill all he knows without holding back anything.

Charisma Check Calculation:

  • Nuon's Charisma Modifier: +3
  • Roll: 15
Total: 15 + 3 = 18

Old Man Fiddlesticks's Wisdom Saving Throw Calculation:

  • Randomly Generated Wisdom Modifier for Fiddlesticks: +1
  • Roll: 10
Total: 10 + 1 = 11

Nuon’s charisma check result (18) is greater than Old Man Fiddlesticks’s wisdom saving throw result (11), so she successfully charms him.

Old Man Fiddlesticks: "Ah, my dear! What a delightful presence you bring to this old tavern. What can an old man like me do for a charming lass such as yourself?"

Nuon leans in, her voice soft and persuasive, as she explains her quest for the Quill of Destiny. Old Man Fiddlesticks's eyes widen with interest.

Old Man Fiddlesticks: "The Quill of Destiny, you say? That's a tale as old as time itself. I've spent many a night pondering over its legends. Recently, I came across something rather peculiar. While wandering the outskirts of the Forgotten Fen, I stumbled upon an ancient stone tablet half-buried in the ground. It had inscriptions that spoke of the Quill. They mentioned a place called the Echoing Caves, which was said to be hidden deep within the Whispering Woods. The tablet hinted that only those who play a specific melody on an enchanted instrument can reveal the entrance."

He takes a long sip of his ale, his eyes gleaming with the thrill of sharing his knowledge.

Old Man Fiddlesticks: "I never could figure out the melody, though. But you, a bard of such talent, might have better luck."

Questions for Old Man Fiddlesticks

Nuon has the opportunity to ask Old Man Fiddlesticks more questions to gain further insights.

----

Okay, gang, it's time to get creative! You all have two chances to ask questions, so the two most liked questions will be asked of Mr. Fiddlesticks. No matter what they are. Also, each question will be a Charisma check of increasing difficulty!
