Surprisingly the paper pile wasn't that bad. In the end of things, the papers were mainly proposals for dealing with the slime tide. So mostly big piles of information.
Some of them were pretty good, like the guards' idea of building defenses near the walls the slime were sighted previously or using soap water to create a defense that could act as a deterrent for the slimes.
On the other hand there was also the bad. Like with the idea of sending an entire group of adventurers to assassinate the head slime or using the entire guild as bait to lure it away. Sadly the pile of bad ideas were much more plentiful than the good ones.
That and adding the fact most of the Rank D members were away from the city made things that much worse. Combined with the fact that most of their forces close ranged in nature. It made that much easier for them to get overwhelmed by the tide if they didn't reduce the rate that were coming to a reasonable number.
So currently their main goal to divide the slime forces to more manageable sizes. Grabbing the proposals that talked about deterrents, traps, and mercenaries. He looked into each of them. With a focus on finding one that was cheap and could make the most use of the man power of the guild.
Trying to find a list to help him get an idea of how many people in the guild were fighting in tide. He shook his head, surely it must be here somewhere. Finding nothing, he found it weird but continued on. Slowly he made his way to the end of the pile and sighed in relief as he finished his work.
Other than the fact he had to find some people to test the effectiveness of the experiments and maybe quell some of the worries of the people. He should be home free if nothing went wrong. Laying there on his table he lifted his hand to call the bartender over. Pierre was his name, he thought.
Waving him over he happily called for some extra drinks and some meat. Looking down at him the Orc calmly asked “You’re done with your papers?”
Giving him a tired smile he responded “Yeah,”
Giving him a mischievous smile, Pierre said “Close your eyes, one of your receptionist friends ordered a special treat for you when you finished your work. It's just behind the counter.”
Closing his eyes, he imagined what could it be cake, meat, or maybe even something he hasn't had before?
And, hearing the table shake in front of him. He opened his eyes to see another pile of paper. Shakily pointing at it he said “There’s surely been a mistake.”
Looking at the look on his face the bartender's serious persona faded away and bursted into into laughter. Wiping the tears off his face he said “Honestly I do feel sorry for you. But, the lady behind the scenes told me to pass you the next pile after you finished the introduction. So my hands are tied."
Slowly staring at the second pile on his table for what seemed like forever. He slammed his hands on the table and screamed “Why!?!”
Hearing a distinct snap from below him, a glare from Pierre from the side, and a sigh from behind him. He chose the lessor of three evils and turned around to find Nene shaking her head back and forth in the distance muttering, "Seems like the position naturally brings carelessness..."
Putting on a forced smile at the sound of her voice and doing his best to ignore the two holes burning on the side of his head. He quickly reassured her "The guild will pay for that I swear. Anyways, Mrs Nene is it possible to grab a list of available members for the tide. It seems to be missing from the pile." Peeking at Pierre with the corner of his eyes as he said so. He felt the pressure fade away once the words of pay came from his mouth. Letting out a silent sigh of relief he turned back his focus to Nene.
"I'm glad you seem more concerned with the well-being of the guild's structures than your predecessor, but... This request is a bit of a hurdle, many adventurers are currently helping Gelderholm at the moment, not to mention those investigating Fuyu Machi and the Holy Empire... And of course, the many that went missing in action, I'm afraid. I could try looking into it, but I doubt the results will please you, mister Cassel."
Quickly shaking his head, he said “There's no need for that. Thank you for the offer Nene.” Even if he got his hands on a list of available adventurers. It could only be used as a source to help him. While useful it wasn't essential. Even if he did have the numbers there was no way he could say 100 percent that they would do the quest. But, he'd still like one if possible.
Picking up the mess of papers that were on the floor he quickly moved to another table and began the sorting process.
