Would it be possible to add story illustrations without needing to use a link to do so? This feature would make things a lot easier, and faster. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement this, but it all possible, could you consider adding it?

I don't think I'm the only one wondering about this, and wishing the option was available, so hopefully, something can be done about it.

Kindly, Rin.

Link is actually faster if you have slow internet connection. It’s also saves data when uploading multiple images at once or in different chapters/glossary. Reverse, you can delete everything by deleting the original file from the image host.

no it is not. image storing is very expensive and cannot function with the current database configuration and how content is being rendered.

there's a lot of services that provide free image hosting, even in bulk. you could also just use discord

Data storage costs money. Be a good user and try to link images. Use Discord, Imgur, Google Drive, or even other free image hosting companies:blobthumbsup:

1-) I know there's a certain fee, but that doesn't mean the option can't be considered.
2-) It's not about being a good user: I'm already adding images using links, it's just not the most optimal way.

I'm glad I looked around. I was considering asking the same thing. I'm also an artist who has some comic stories I'd love to share, in part because they're related to the written works I started with (and continue to make).

Okay, I get that changes would need to be made overall to how Scribble Hub works and it'd be more expensive to the staff and the site. That could come back to bite the authors who want to use the feature too (or in general use the site), and we wouldn't want that.

But I also hear it's difficult to fix with the current setup if the hosting website goes under - and given the major changes happening throughout the net, I can see former "champions" like DeviantArt falling victim to that scenario now.

As a middle ground, I say we need some modifications to the link system so that if a hosting website goes under, it's much easier for authors to fix.

I would say the modification is called 'backing up your artwork’ on an SD card or flash drive, or your own computer... or literally any other device. You can get a flash drive for as little as $6 and get... 64GB of personal, privately-owned storage! :blob_hide:

Oh for sure, I have backups saved of not just my finished drawings but the work files leading up to them! (And if you throw a little more money at it, why not get a 128 GB flash drive - like I have - or SD card instead? lol) That's how I just updated a number of my works recently...

But It sounded like to me that if a website crashes, it becomes difficult to fix the image link. Unless someone that has dealt with that scenario could explain that one to me?

I would suggest you sign up to a cloudflare free account, and create an r2 bucket (their storage competitor to amazons S3 solution) and upload your images there. Remember to allow scribblehub as a host.

If cloudflare's distribution network ever goes down, chances are half the internet is down as well.

Usage on scribble hub should fall well under the free tier, as cloudflare do not charge egress fees.

And given their generous free tier, it is unlikely you will ever go past their limits and if you do, it would cost you pennies.

There is no effective way to switch out the broken links. Images on the net are never really safe, and unless someone codes a bot to find broken links and replace them, we're stuck with manually finding out in which chapter the broken image is and replacing the old link with a new source.

Nonetheless, lazy as I am, I considered uploading artworks to social media and then link them (additionally) in case a pic breaks in the future.

So, just as a note regarding some of the suggestions to use Discord.

Discord will kill image links after some period of time or usage (I am not sure which is the trigger). You'll end up with dead links if you use Discord, even though the image still exists in Discord. Though you can send yourself images in your discord server if you want to use it as another form of backup.

Neat, I tried going the imgur route and for the life of me, it refuses to upload the image. I have the link, copy it in, and a blank (or blue square with ? on it) appears. I’m on mobile so that’s maybe why?

Make sure to use the link labeled "Direct Link"
The others will fail.

It is time-based, and applies to all files accessed through discord.
It was changed because of individuals using discord to distribute malware.

Go to imgur > add post > choose photo/video > wait for it to upload > click “grab link” > go to the link > double click and select “Copy Image address” or whatever is the equivalent on your computer > use that link

To be honest, I don’t know if I’m doing it right... but none of my images have broken yet!

You have to use the hyperlink specific to the direct image url, which means "opening image in new tab" and using that link.
Postimg and archive.org work okay for us.
