Should I draw every day?

I did google the question, but most opinions are either for or against, and the most common arguments are that one needs the practice. But SH is a special place, so I figured I could ask here as well.

So, artists of SH, should I try to draw every day? Even when I come back from work and have only sleep on my mind? I did draw today, a nightmare fuel which resembles a chibi, but I did draw it, so I posted it on DA.

And it felt good. It felt good being able to create something, instead of to battle with Midjourney. It felt relaxing.

The thing is, I can find motivation to write every day. It is just hard to find the same motivation for drawing.

So, please give me your opinions, arguments, and wisdom! =)

I've failed to draw everyday and now it's like I'm stuck and I can't begin to draw at all. Don't make the same mistake.

Imo, even if you draw something completely random as a quick sketch, it's better than nothing.

If everyday is too much then set an easier schedule but regularity is king.

There are some questions in life that people ask others when they know its something they have to answer for themselves. This is one of them. No, Doravg. If you want to get good at drawing and quickly, its best if you only draw once a month, optimally once every year. It's best if you don't think about what you're doodling. Don't study smartly: breaking up the process into gesture, perspective, anatomy, etc.

But sarcasm aside, I suggest you push yourself to get better at art, but not push yourself too hard that you begin to find drawing a chore.

How about drawing during work?
I work in a call center. Fix routers the whole day. There is no time for drawing then.

So, if I draw only during my off days, I can still get somewhere? Not fast, but one day I can maybe progress past chibis?

You don't have to draw every day. You can draw every other day or every couple of days. What's important is the correct and regular practice.
Having break is important so that your brain has time to organize the things you've learned, just like with learning language or anything else really. As long as you make sure to practice in a way that teaches you something, you should be fine even if you draw on your days off. It will be just slower.

Even if I didnt post my stories, it's better for me to continue writinf whenever i can.

The principle is, write more post less.

But thats the principle for practice writing focused, or when i want to improve my writing skill.

That also applied to drawing.

If i want to improve my drawing without distraction and comments, i would simply draw on my own and post less art.

But i also have to remember that this is for drawing practice stage.

When I actually want to gain recognition and interaction, I should post more in order to try to attract attention.

And also try to guess which content could draw more interaction and whether it supports my positions.

This content doesn't get attention ? Kepp guessing and try other type.

That content doesnt get attention ? Continue guessing.

That content get attention, but not the one you liked ? Well, continue create this kind.

And guess again, if only to see which other type works better.

Apart from understanding the lighting, shapes, and so on, it is also important to improve your fine motor skills(I hope this is the right term). Everybody knows how circle looks like, why can't everybody draw a near perfect circle? Cause you have to actually train yourself, control over your arms. And it is just like working out in that sense.

Will you slim down and get more muscles if you train a couple of days a week? If we assume that you don't eat a lot of junk food, and eat more or less healthy, you will. But it will take a lot more time. I assume the same is true for drawing. Will you be able to get there and draw a near perfect circle if you draw two days a week? You will. But it will take you more time.

P.S. Drawing a circle is simply an example to illustrate my point.

I am not expecting to become a master overnight. Heck, I am pretty sure it might take me years to get something that is worth looking at. It is just that so many people say that if you want to do something, you have to work towards it every day. Which is why I asked.

The reason I suggested drawing during work was that it was what I had been doing all the time while listening to others. I doodled. It’s mostly absentminded drawing on my notebooks rather than paying too much attention to the technicality.

As @SailusGebel said, it’s to practice your fine motor skills. I often see artists doodling during coffee breaks or lunch too.

I am not sure myself. I assume it depends on talent. Don't roll your eyes yet. Eye–hand coordination is different for every person, and I mean stuff like that when I mention talent. Can you negate it by hard work? Duh, yes, but we are not talking about it, we talk about time it will take you. So if you are talented, have good fine motor skills, good eye-hand coordination stuff like that, you will progress faster, and obviously achieve much better results in a shoter period of time even if you draw less than others.

I bet those peeps who offer free drawing lessons on the Internet assume that you don't have exceptionall talent, and obviously teach everyone equally. And this is where the ceiling of your talent comes into question. Will you be able to draw more than chibis? Eventually you will. Will you be able to draw like Wlop if you practice a couple of days a week? Chances are slim. What will be the best you can draw? Will you reach the level you personally desire? We don't know this. These are all assumptions, but I think they make sense. Also, all of this is in relation to time. You can obviously break the ceiling of your talent if you practice more and or change how you practice.

Good point, as always.

Do what you feel like. I can’t draw without inspiration, so I don’t draw when I don’t have it as the product is very far from satisfactory.

If it doesn’t burn you out then go for it. Daily practice can help you improve the basic skills faster (smoother lines, faster sketching).

I need both inspiration and motivation. Some times I have an amazing idea, but am too lazy to do anything

Legit. I lacked both for the past 6 months and relied of my accumulated experience to barely whip out a Chibi. Everything else turned into rubbish.

The best way to minimize the motivation required to practice something is to make it habitual, as in practice a little bit the same time everyday.

It might be tempting to wait until you're 'inspired' and then go until failure, but this is really suboptimal. It's better to spread out your creative energy over as long a period as possible. This way you'll have already formed a habit by time the novelty bias wears off and you pass the beginner stage (reach the point of not seeing noticable improvement over a single session).

I'm not any pro artist. But, I'd like to say that you should draw when you want to do it (if It's not your job and It's a hobby). If you are willing to draw even when you're hella tired, then congrats. You might have found a new passion. Drawing is to relax your mind (as a hobby). So, don't put pressure on yourself.
Frankly speaking, you should draw everyday if you want IMPROVE. But, that doesn't mean you have to.
If you want to practice, yes.
If you want to enjoy a hobby, no.
Totally agree
