My mind is a bit dumb for the matter, so please help. Thank you.

So currently I am overcomplexing things in my head again, the fundimentals in my thinking chain is this;
1. Power Source.
2. Player Character.
3. Work Bench.

The Power Source supplies power to Player Character, which in turn will use the Work Bench to produce things.

Without the Power Source, the Player cannot use the Work Bench.

Without the Player, the Power Source and Work Bench are merely idle.

Without the Work Bench, the Player cannot craft anything.

In terms of Player and Work Bench, I can think of a couple simple upgrades like more blueprint for Work Bench, better tools in Work Bench to allow more versitile builds and faster build speed for Player.

But what is for Power Source? All I can think of for it is one single upgrade and that is to increase Power Output.

For Power Source, is there any other form of improvement to it?

In a funny sense it is like Minecraft with Steve collecting mats (Power Source) and using the Work Bench (Work Bench) to make (Player) items.

power source affects the craftable items. coal/charcoal, steam, electricity, nuclear, etc. doesn't have to be constrained to just levels. maybe some items require multiple power sources.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Not every type of coal can produce steel. Even if I'm wrong you can still use this. The output might be higher, but it won't produce what you want. Also, don't forget about stuff like borax and flux.

Player has a simple workbench, which can be used to craft a simple power source that can power the main workbench, which in return allows creation of a proper power source that can properly power the workbench.
For the steps between, just sprinkle different stages.
Like to open a large steam engine that can power, a strong workbench. You first use handpower, then to things like water wheels, later a small prototype steamengine, then to the main engine.
