Tips for.new authors

1. use as many tags as you can you get 25 so put 25 in more tags = more chances for your story to appear when people look for it.
2. Be consistent. I'm not saying upload daily but have a regular schedule I aim for 1 times a week because I have to work but if you can do more. However stay within your limits burnout is a very real thing.
3. Just be patient Rome wasn't built in a day this is a marathon not a sprint
4. Be prepared to accept that your story just won't be popular. It sucks to here but sometime what we think is cool/ interesting doesn't apply to other people.
5. Have fun. Enjoy writing your work it shows trust me.

You forgot the most important factor, edginess. The edgier the story is, the more likely the story get pick up. And something we both know, the MC being theatric af.

Other tip is write for yourself, it is about making something as a creative outlet or to read. Others reading it can be nice, ideally people enjoy it but if you are only writing for others you will almost certainly get disappointed. The person that has been reading my stuff most? That's me, I re-read them a lot because I enjoy them.

Also write ideas down, don't delay it, carry a small pad with you even to get them down asap. If you get ideas written down you can use them or decide against it but forgotten ideas might be gone forever. Ideas for a story you already have are extremely valuable and you can really get inspired from basic ideas. Maybe even record interesting dreams, those can be great too.

Just enjoy yourself with it. If you are looking to make it a job you will likely burn out and get very disappointed and broken with it. Creating should be fun and not a chore or something to force, if you keep having to force it then maybe you need to release at a slower rate or you are not motivated enough. I took the step that now I don't want a load of unfinished works so I won't release something until I have it finished but this is a personal choice (happened after a few works completely stalled and I had uploaded them a bit).

I guess finally, know when to end a story. Sometimes you love a world but there comes a time to put it down and declare it finished (Might be 5 chapters might be a thousand). You will run out of steam at some point, that is okay, it is better to move on at an ending than part way through (this is also partly why I am not uploading unfinished stuff now).

Nah, I have seen slice of life with big titted maids succeed here too. You can boost with edginess, but it is not mandatory per se.

On the more serious side:

You should think about what you want with your story.
1. Write something that gets a lot of views.
2. Write something that actually means something to you and perhaps others.

First option is relatively simple, just research what is mainstream and add your own unique twist. Even if you do it badly, if you do it long enough, you will get to 100.000 views in a reasonable time. Alas, you won't necessarily be showing that work around your actual community in real life out of embarrassment.

Regarding the second option. Write what you think you want to write with as much effort and skill as you can muster. Stay true to yourself. Then you will have something that you are proud to show around. Definitely less amount of followers, but they will truly appreciate your work and a small chance that you get into mainstream. Based on the quality of your writing.

I have seen many stories with little to no views on them that far outclassed my works in every sense of the word. Stories that were far above my level of writing skills, probably because English is not my mother-language and it will never be. It will always remain lackluster compared to a genuine and talented native writer.

Either way, if you want views talent isn't that necessary. Luck and the right genre will do it.

I would add to this that no matter if you are doing 1 or 2 you should write in your own style and develop it naturally. We don't need another <insert author> we already have one, it is best to use your own style and quirks that come naturally and evolve it because it is a lot easier to write that way. I am the anti-Tolkien, what even is description! (I kid I just write description badly since I can't actually imagine in my head and keep it minimal with a compact story).

Well, at least we got some important stuff pinpointed here:

Write in your own style, and don't cry when your novel doesn't make it past 3k views. Check and re-check your words. Anything your readers want to understand one way should be perceived one way, not another way.

I made the most generic title with a bunch of trashy tags and a pile of edgy tags and somehow the story is doing incredibly well when compared to my main one. I did it mostly as a joke, but also to gauge how feasible these methods are.
Marketing and visibility are unfortunately 'A' way to get readers.

I'm sort of suffering in that middle ground of 'not completely floundering' but also 'not really taking off either'. Never really received any complaints about my current work, but it hasn't had the explosive success that the popular tags / genres seem to.

I think this is a case of not really writing to the SH market. It's doing quite a bit better on RR (5x followers, 10x daily/total views)

But the growth is incomparable between the stories.
When I post a chapter for my longer work in which I put in more effort, I may not get a reader at all.
When I post a chapter for the one with tags in the name, I get at least 10.
Despite that story having a terrible synopsis on purpose and an overly long name with tags in it. I even added a random AI-generated image someone made in a minute on SH Discord.

My takeaway here is that
1) Smut brings in views.
2) Putting tags in the name seems to do wonders
3) A lot of people don't seem to read synopsis
4) It doesn't matter how generic your story is
5) Short chapters work. I made them half the length of my other story and found no one complaining about it.

Probably some more, but I forgot.
Of course, this is just a single story from thousands, but I feel my observations do hold water.

As for short chapter, I write only 1k ones. I feel them long and quality didn't suffer, imo. Anything longer just invites continuous rambling.

And I am just too slow at writing. I also feel our styles are somewhat comparable.
