I did some of these without really thinking about it. I always felt it unnatural in 1st POV when a character breaks the story to describe their looks. Hence, I usually use things like "her hair was unlike my own..."

Indeed. I think? A character narrating their emotions also feels weird to me.
I was scared, my legs didn’t work. Is far worse then. My legs shook, refusing to listen to me, staying planted in place.

That's because of showing and telling related reasons. I actually discuss this in the past.

It's workable with 3rd person as well, of course, though I decided to just go with 1st person because it was easier to teach the lesson with. Regardless, now that you're aware, you can consciously use it!

As do I, more often than not, for the reasons I discuss there. Though I'm not against telling when someone knows WHEN to tell. ...I have a whole video on that, too.

To me, it's a matter of just using whatever is the best tool for the occasion.

SHOVEL 101: Grab wood, Shape the wood, Hammer the metal, Shape the metal into spade, hammer it, temper it, then insert the wood to the shovel.. done!

It’s actually a more difficult process than that. The metal hammering isn’t as simple because you require a force. The shaft is the easiest one to make, the head is not.
