Hello!!!!

Has there ever been a time where ypu watched a filler episode(s) for an anime series and it was so good that you thought it was good enough to be considered as canon material?

There were a few in some terribad animes I was forced to watch. Really says much about the quality of a series if the brainless filler episode was better than everything else...

Huh?

I don't understand. I think what you mean by filler and what I think is filler is two different things.

Filler is cannon, it's just a waste of time. A beach episode is often filler/fan service, but it is still cannon.

I seem to remember being shown a scene from a filler episode of an anime where they explained filler episodes.

A filler episode is not canon. Filler mean a plot/part that was not in the original version, for anime, it's part that wasn't in the manga.
For exemple the bount arc in bleach or the Sora arc in naruto.

Filler at least in anime come from anime catching up to the manga end needing filler content created purely by the anime company with minimal or no input from the original creator to fill time.

As you can expect most of the time it not being written by the manga author that made the manga popular to start with and instead by writers that are used to adapating an already existing storyline rather than making up an entirely new one the quality is often quite a bit lower than non-filler content. Not only that, but filler content not being canon with the original manga also can't affect the broader storyline or characters because the manga author generally isn't going to include it in their story.

The Bleach anime's filler has generally been ok, not as good as the canon story, but enjoyable enough. The Naruto anime has had some absolutely god-awful filler though and way too much of it.

So it didn't happen? Why show it?

As I mentioned before. To fill time hence the name filler. It's not quite as common with changes in how anime are made and released, but it used to be quite common for anime of popular series to start catching up to the manga. So to prevent them from catching up once they got closer they would start adding filler episodes or sometimes even filler arcs to give the manga time to get ahead again.

But it's not part of the story. It's a lie.

Good, no one's mentioned this yet: dragon ball has the best filler. Between the sexist mountain and goku and piccolo teaming up for driver's ed, no other series has better filler.

edit: I'm just blind someone did already say half of it

Yes.

Unrelated, but the Abridged Vegeta is canon in my head.

Most people aren't fans of it. Probably a reason why it isn't as common as it used to be. Who would be excited about being forced to sit through often lower quality content only to find out it won't even have any effect on the characters or story going forward. It'll feel like your time is being wasted.

I literally stopped watching Naruto after all the filler. I got to Shippuuden, but by that point the filler had killed any excitement I had for the show. Across Naruto's 220 episodes 90 were filler. At 20 minutes per episode 90 X 20 = 1800 minutes or 30 hours of my life wasted on crap that doesn't matter and most of the time wasn't good.

I skipped the last bit of filler in the og Naruto, then went back later to watch it. Skipped the filler in Shippuuden after
Naruto enters the battle in the 4th great shinobi war
, and I'll probably go back and watch some of that eventually.

The dbz episode where Goku and Piccolo go to the DMV is one of the best episodes of the series
I second this. That episode was hilarious.

If Omake clips/sections count then the ones for Blue Seed were worth watching. I'm still sour that they aren't on Crunchyroll and I no longer have a VCR to play the old tapes to watch them.
