Kind of cultivation but more magic.
And yes, he comes from a very technologically advanced world and ends up dying in an explosion at the scientific facility he was working at.
He then ends up in the body of a noble mortal on the way to a mage recruitment thing in a completely different world while his AI chip ended up merging with his soul.
The rest of the story is about him getting stronger so he can live longer, so he can learn more about the truth of the world and universe.

I guess you could consider him the definition of a scientist in that he is always searching for the truth behind how everything works.

Now I fully remember! I started to read that novel a long time ago, but dropped it for some reason... Got to the point where he's going into some strange tower with his teacher - and probably future girl.
