I decided to open this topic after a discussion with my friend. I wondered if the authors had their least favorite characters or characters that ruined the story for them. Whether they were created that way intentionally or not. For me this is angel. A character from the series “Heaven, Earth, Me” that I once really loved. I don’t want to cause aggression towards anyone here, just to find out your experience in this. Because in my title I have a character that I don’t like, but so far he hasn’t ruined my story for me. Maybe you can share your experience with this.

The main character from the light novel Berserk of Gluttony. It had single-handedly managed to ruin my tastebuds concerning Isekai and romance (harem included), especially with male protagonists—to this day.

Over the years, I have had many characters I have hated with passion.
There are currently two I hate more than the others.
The first one is Griffith from the manga 'Berserk'.
The second one is Rachel from the webtoon Tower of God.

As for why, that would be spoilers. Both stories are worth the read.

Rachel is an insanely good character, and I will stick by that. Not because I like her, but how well the author makes her hate-able. The fact she consistently gets comments about how people hate her even in chapters she isn't in shows just how effective she is as a character.

I mean. Hating Griffith is a meme. People don't even have to watch Berserk to know that everyone hates him. And he deserved it

It has to be brought up again and again. For the new generation of Internet users. As a warning. As a reminder. As a fuel to keep the hate train going. The manga is so old there are kids these days who are just learning of it.

Definitely! I think she is an excellent character. One of the best ever created... for everyone to hate.

Sera from Dragon Age: Inquisition. Initially, I was super excited for her as her character concept is pretty good but then she is god damn annoying in the game. They went for this idea of a character that was supposed to be a Robin Hood styled character but the execution was just terrible (and yes, I did her entire storyline). Maybe she's better in the books but who knows.

Other than that, I can't really think of any character that I hated that wasn't intentionally meant to be hated (like Joffrey from GoT). Maybe Dazzler from the X-Men/Marvel comics but that's more to do with someone who used to play her on an RP site as opposed to the character itself.

Joffrey is fun to hate, the actor played him well. As usual after his role, people, being stupid, threatened his life. People sometimes really stupid.

Aside from that, I just strongly dislike characters who are the "goody two-shoes" type. Not only this type is boring af, they are also the most messed up in the head in the bunch. And not even in the entertaining/interesting way. Just creepy.

Soft spoken virgin JP MC's that also tend to get nosebleed's for seeing a girls cleavage. Psychopathic CN MC's that kill 9 generations of an enemy because they looked at them funny. Money-grubbing KR MC's that would cry about a 200 won difference in salt for 100+ chapters (I like money-grubbing MC's but there's a limit to it, just like ruthless MC's) Basically the typical JP, CN, KR cliché of an MC

The appeal of such a goody two shoes character is seeing how they stick to their beliefs even when the whole world makes it incredibly difficult or constantly shits on those beliefs. It's their struggle and how far they're willing to suffer for what they believe in is what's appealing about them. Some comics showcase this I've heard, but not so much the movies.

I have a lot of archetypes that the others mentioned. But here are some from anime I will never forgive for the authors ro ever think about them.

  • Shirou from FSN
  • Suzaku from Code Geass
  • The MC of Mirai Nikki, don't know his name. I dropped the show 6-8 episodes in because of the MC
  • Ainz from Overlord
  • Sanji from Gundam 00

There are more but I am lazy to look it up

When I was young, and willing to read much further into trashy LitRPGs than I am now (please don't judge me! Reading this was a folly of youth, so like, when I was 12. Also, it was my second LitRPG and first experience with the tropes of LitRPG, so it was all cool and unique for me), the character that ruined "My Blind Familiar" for me was one of the main character's brothers.
He r***ed a woman.
Yeah... I stopped there. It was a bit too vomit-worthy.
I really should have stopped earlier, in the first book and not the second book:sweat_smile:, but my judgement was overshadowed by cool, edgy power combos.

Kenjaku, because at least Mahito was merely a bonafide cursed spirit incapable of human empathy. This POS, on the other hand, was willing to let several women get r**ed by cursed spirits just so he could create a hybrid race that became the Death Womb Paintings.
