I havent find yet a particullar good cake perse here in my area...so ice cream wins by default

It depends.

I'm not a big fan of ice cream by itself, but if it's with pie or on top of a cookie or warm brownie I'd go with that.
Cake is good depending on what type of cake it is. I'm not a big fan of german chocolate but love Lemon Pound Cake. Yellow cake is bland but Red Velvet is delicious.
When it comes to Ice Cream cake it can definitely be too sweet and the only time you really see it is for birthday celebrations... that's the only time I've had ice cream cake any way...
