So, one of my favorite artists on Deviantart accepted my commission but said that the price is 5$ with a tip, which I can decide. I'd love to hire him for a second commission. His art is always perfect. I feel bad about the low price.

If I gave him, let us say, 30$, would it be enough? Or am I being stingy? We are talking digital art here. I really would like to build up a good working relationship with him.

It depend the quality, but if the price is 5$, pay him 5$ except if he really, REALLY, good.
Depending of the drawing and the quality, most commission start at 100$.

If they're only asking $5 plus tip then $30 is more than enough. Though maybe add some more($5-$10) for a second commission.

It's too perfect, too uniform, too mass produced and heck, if someone can render like this, then they wouldn't hide the hands in every friggin picture.

165 deviations in the span of less than 2 weeks, with NO prior works despite being a deviant for 4 years. No posts or community interaction. Those people exist, and they go to art station.

Now this thread shall cuss out the AI-scammer.

Yeah, but then you asked the wrong question.

Artist pay =/= Ai prompter

You can even get Chatgpt to formulate the prompts for the desired result (don't ask me how).

My personal opinion, but this whole thing of paying someone to generate Ai for you and fueling his ego of "being an artist" disgust me to the bone.

Back to the main question: $5 no more, guy probably spent no more than 5 minutes to come up with the prompt that was slightly different from the hundred other times he did for "his" deviations.

I use AI for pictures as well, but I refuse to sell my pictures. I got a couple of buyers since going to DeviantArt, but just the thought, that I will have to take down fanart for my stories down, makes me sad.

And, honestly, I agree that real artists should be paid, and not the ai prompters, but if someone can do something you can't, then you pay him to do it for you.

It's not that wrong to pay him for his time he invested into prompting (I think this will become a thing just as being tiktoker became a thing). But that he concealed that it's AI is very, very shady. Seriously, you wouldn't call yourself a baker when you use a cake mixture from the shelf, nor would you call brewing water for a cup of instant noodles cooking.
