Today, I browsed Amazon and found a book called "Finding Oneself". TL;DR: It is my story "Misfit's Journey" just given a rough AI overwork. Even the character names are the same. But the idiot who stole it called it an Isekai, even though it isn't and the story isn't even finished, so it just ends at chapter 30 without any kind of end whatsoever.

Does anyone have any experience in how to take it down? I wrote an Amazon Infringement thing, but does that really work?

Here's the link to the book:

Are you really serious about this? Usually, if you're not monetizing your stuff, it doesn't matter if someone steals it. Filing a lawsuit is just too much trouble, especially if it involves international law (you and the bastard are from different countries).

If you're really serious about this, then I suggest getting help from a lawyer. They're specialized in this area. It's better than trying to solve things on your own without knowing what you're doing or trying to get advice from random people on the internet.

(If you don't want to go to that level, then you can try reporting it like you already did. Just give some food for thought is all.)

I'm not going to go with a lawyer, I will just hope Amazon does something. I provided them with links to my original work and I hope this does something.
I just went through it a bit and found quite a lot of "suspicious" books. I would advise every author to just go an check once, since it seems to be a trend nowadays to steal books. They also don't seem to care if the book is complete or not
Wow. That sucks. You can try amazon first to get them to take it down. But you'll have to prove you're the owner. If you want to take this seriously, you're gonna need a lawyer.
It really does. Proving I am the owner is not that hard, but I hope amazon actually does things.

You can report it on Amazon. I have no idea how to do it, I just know it can be done. I have an abandoned story years back that was stolen (I was already on hiatus then). Some loyal readers reported it to have it taken down.

Yeah, I just filled out some infringement form and hope that does something. Also reported twice through different means.

You don't lose anything for trying. Then you'll see. In the end, if you prove it, the law is on your side whether they want or not. This would be a clearly winnable case. I don't think it's even worth Amazon's risk of losing a lot of money over this sort of thing.

Genuine question:

How do you guys figure out that someone stole your work and put it onto Amazon?

Me, the stupid man opening his fat, uneducated mouth here.

Take the first paragraph of some random chapter and search in Google? If it is in a place where you did not post it, it is stolen imho.
This. ^

I also googled my story title and found it on some viet aggregator website or whatever. Really don't like posting on SH because of it.

In my case, I just searched for LitRPG's and filtered to only english books, the pirate was on the second page already. The name made me suspicious and when I read through the sample, it really was mine.

On Amazon, pirates often use the same pattern: AI Artwork, white letters with low opacity grey/black background and the most generic english names you can think of. Like James Donald (who stole mine).

Also, I do not know wether they steal from RR or SH, since mine is on both. Have seen more cases over at RR, so maybe SH authors are less affected. Just speculation though.

Well that either doesn't work they don't steal it as I have them up on Amazon by my own account. What came back were poems :blob_hmm:

I am curious how could you verify it is indeed yours.

Kindle Unlimited is pay before read, so only way to find out whether anyone stole your story is to pay Amazon first

Just reading the description between both is enough. It's very clearly plagiarism.

Just go into the reading sample, look at the chapter titles in the summary and read the first chap.

I'm constantly vigilant about this myself, considering I hear about it happening quite a lot. Still safe so far...

My first novel had the exact same thing happen. I went through the copyright thing on Amazon to get it taken down and it was within the hour, you just need to explain in the form that the work is yours, as you are the original author.

just be prepared for the one that stole it to try contacting you for the rights to your work. That happened to me and all I did in reply was say no before blocking them.
