I can see two major differences. I just started my journey into the sports (it was my second year) and I haven't started on my novel yet (but the idea was already there). I'd say nothing about the last part, as art should flourish on it's own. But I could advise so much when it comes to sports. Also, I would try to hook myself with a girl maybe and urge to leave the country.
