Personally, I like being able to support a writer to grow… but also have the standard of the main writer not having worse prose than me. If they aren’t really the type to take advice as well, that only makes things harder to do any support.

Q. What would I do as a co-writer?
A. Read and grammar check the final draft of any chapter. Make sure the story doesn’t stray too far into a direction that would make it lose the original appeal.
—
Q. What support do I give?
A. Inspiration through talking about it. You’d be surprised how much easier it is to write when you have company. Someone to show your work to and get excited about your own narrative to.
— I wouldn’t be changing the story or writing it since that would be the responsibility of the Main Writer. Only in rare cases of writer’s block and the Main Writer being unable to imagine what to do next would I give that kind of support… but it wouldn’t be the norm.

Q. What standards do I have as a co-writer?
A. I don’t care about their preference in story whatsoever (unless they write something vile enough to make me leave the chat). Though I have some preferences in prose since reading the work should be enjoyable to me too.
— Simply read my works if you’re curious what that means. Basically, if the Main Writer doesn’t even use paragraphs and basic grammar common sense… I’d be turned off as a reader, which would affect my ability to support.
—
Q. What genres do I avoid?
A. Grimdark. Life is already a slog and reading about someone being tortured throughout the story with no hope in sight… might actually affect my will to live. Dark and edgy characters are fine, but Grimdark is defined by there being no hope in the world and simply tragic lives.
—
Q. Do I understand how incredibly bold it is and rude to expect people to live up to the conditions above?
A. I’m not going to force anyone here. If you’re not interested, then that ends with that. If you’re not confident, then you wouldn’t be able to take the lead as a Main Writer in the first place. A level of boldness is required as any type of writer.
— If you are confident but have no need for someone whose main job is being a cheerleader in the back, then that’s also unfortunate. I’m not going to take more responsibility than stated.
— If you’re looking for a different kind of relationship between the co-writer and main writer, then you’d simply have to convince me with words why that’d be appealing to me.

Lastly, I’m acting as a Main Writer for a project at the ‘Studio Saeroku’ discord. If you’re interested in creating a character that would be in the main project, then come on over and co-write with me.
My Discord is Love4NovelGuy#6498
The specifics on the project is that I’m turning the characters of the studio members into the main ‘crew mates’ of the protagonist. Similar to how One Piece operates in function.
You’d simply come up with your own Original Character (which would include wherever they may live, a simple goal in life, powers and specialties, and whatever else you life. I’d simply fill in the blanks).
Note that only members of Studio Saeroku that have filled in their form and abide by the rules are eligible to join. Those simply popping in for funsies might be more work than just decisively making a decision on whether you want to or not.
There is no conditions on being a writer or an artist for this. Even if you’re not even doing anything in particular and simply like reading books, it is fine since the Main Writer (me) will pick up slack in character arcs and world building. Interpreting the OC ideas in their own way.
If you read all that. Thank you for staying until the end. Discord me and I’ll give you the link to the studio discord, and we can talk about any other questions there.
