Chat GPT.

ASK IT TO REWORD THE NEXT PARAGRAPH.

Feed in one paragraph at a time, making sure the paragraphs are at least 3 sentences long. Anything less, do by hand.

Do not ask to rewrite the whole story at once.

Do not ask to rewrite one sentence at a time.

The AI gets wonky.

Take the new Paragraph and put in a text file next to the original.

Combine the two.

Put the new hybrid paragraph back in The original story.

When you are done, put the whole chapter in textedit.

Use the text to speech option.

Listen to your story read outloud.

Fix it when you cringe.

I think if you write on google docs, it will automatically spot most grammar mistakes, and will provide a more suitable grammar to use. Well that's what I do.

Hrmmm...

You know what, I'm going to update my debugging/review process.

First ChatGPT to "reword" paragraphs so I have an alternate view of each.
Then Grammarly, because it seems to have some helpful tips.
Finally, the TextEdit Text to Voice so I can review the final product.

I like this. This is usually my strategy as well, but in the middle of Grammarly and Text-to-Speech, I utilize ProWritingAid.

I am most curious. Can you give more examples of why you use ProWritingAid?

I just downloaded it, but I'm not sure of what use it is to me, except for the "Rephrase a sentence" part.

I use PWA for pacing, style, use of weak words in between sentences, and just any general improvement it has for me. Grammarly is nice, but it isn't made for writers and is more business-oriented for general corrections. That is why I take PWA more seriously concerning word choice and grammar, as it has several categories you can choose from for creative work.

There is a tool at deepl.com/write which is also AI powered and more geared to editing than chatGPT. Since it is a side-by-side view, I can edit the source until I like it and just look at the suggestions for the grammar of the AI. Because, at least in my experience, AI tools either go totally flowery (chatGPT) or suggest easier words that make sense for everyday communication but not necessarily for books (grammarly).
