I don't get why, it exist in some anime's but rarely and i don't think there is manga or novels on this it's just not very popular when it is so good to read or watch.

I'm not interested in getting all technical at the moment, so I'll summarize.

Doing stuff is cool.

Not doing stuff is not cool.

That's actually quite surprising since I thought it's a pretty OP skill...

Fine. I'll write it. I will simply title it:

NO.

It will be about a man who has the power to say, "No." and stop anything. Planes from landing. Nukes from destroying cities. Your order actually arriving from Amazon. With but a word, he can stop anything. The story will be about how he figured out how his powers worked. He was in school and fell in love with girl who said she liked him, but he was so embarrassed by the very concept of confessing, when she asked if he liked anyone, he said, "No."

And thus he became incapable of ever loving anyone.

EVER.

His whole drive in life is to find a way to undo his powers and learn how to experience love.

I will pencil it in for... 2038.

Have you seen Black Clover which is technically nullifying powers and it is cool which invalidates your opinion. also isn't there alot of stuff on not doing much which also invalidates your opinion again.

If you're reading a fic with superpowers, then someone having the ability to make it a story about people who don't have superpowers is probably a bad idea.

Fine as a one-shot boss or maybe an overarching threat, bad idea for a general inclusion character.

Nulling powers would be a nice idea for an MC, but most of the time the Null power includes steroids, POWAH OFF FREINDSHEEEP and PLOT ARMOUR as well, which turns it into a borefest.

It would be nice to see an underdog character scheme for situations where onthers would need their special abilities and then Nope the hell out of them. Otherwise "Casting Negation on everything to rule all under heaven - in another world -" sounds boring.

i guess but it can have alot of things that can make it intresting i mean an example is Black Clover it can be said it is a harem, dense mc, magic and technically nullifying powers like it can just be the a opposite of the energy in the world that has some kind of nullifying power like asta.
:blob_unsure: A Certain Magical Index.
yeah that is one of the anime's with nullifying powers and the very rare one where the mc has the ability.

And yet there are still things Touma's Imagine Breaker can't negate.

To put it simply, it would be boring if you had a character who could nullify powers with no sort of restrictions or balancing mechanics. Going back to the Index example, sure, Imagine Breaker can nullify magic and esper powers, but that power is limited to Touma's right hand. On top of that, Imagine Breaker also blocks beneficial effects like healing magic or Index's Walking Church.

Since I have more time, I'll write a bit more.

Power nullification or anti-magic is a reactive power. It only works if other people have power and then only as a way of stopping that power.

On the other hand, if you give the character literally any other power, then you can have creative, character-driven events play out. For example, the protagonist can go toe-to-toe and fight their enemy, or escape with a clever application of their power.

Cool powers give a character the opportunity to do cool things. But a nullifier can usually only prevent cool things from happening.

So when an author sets out to write something, they have a choice: Do I give my characters the ability to drive the plot, or do I give them the ability to survive what everyone else tries to do to them?
Most times, the answer is... "Well, maybe I'll include an episode or two?"

There are actually so many examples of this being used. Just look a little harder, and check the examples lists on the links above.

Personally, I rather fondly (and only vaguely) remember a story I read when I was a kid where the protagonist was a Void mage, a person who was born without any form of magic. People like that were reviled as talentless, but then they realized void mages could nullify other people's magic as well. There was a revolution and everything.

Since then I've seen that sort of thing done dozens of times. It's super common. It's more common to use it against the protagonist for obvious reasons, but even the protagonists of a lot of stories have it.
