A lot of Anime that originated from web novels can trace back to that website.For Example, Kumo desu ga, Nani ka?, Death march kara hajimeru, Tensura, To Be a Power in the Shadows!, Arifureta, and many many more.

Anyway, I am a bit sidetracked here. We are talking about mental BL, not Syotesu. So what exactly is a mental BL? Mental BL is usually accompanied by gender bender or TS. Where MC or one of the relevant character turn into a girl. The one that turns into a girl usually falls in love with some male character. I guess is called mental BL cause what is inside the girl is a former male. But it can also be two males becoming a girl and falling in love with each other. Usually, that makes it GL right? Theres also pleasure vs romance factors at play. Maybe after becoming a woman, you'd enjoy sex with a man more than you would a woman. But would you LOVE a man? There's also not enough cases to prove correlation either on the first part is my guess. I wouldn't even begin to know how you'd legally go about testing for this, as we're talking about a normal dude getting flooded with estrogen/suffering a full on perfect sex change (something scientifically impossible right now), and seeing if they turn "mentally homosexual." Thought experiments are thought experiments as it's entirely subjective on that note and cannot be taken as facts and just hypotheticals.

We can discuss theory all we like, but this is still full on Fiction- whether Fantasy or Science Fiction, so there's no saying if it'd be one way or another. I'm on the same opinion as CupcakeNinja though- I would also think they'd stay largely the same unless they had some inclinations of 'deviancy' beforehand.

well because i think the whole anime culture attracts a certain type of person anyway. I mean, we joke about it a lot but NEETS are pretty common among anime lovers. It, as with anything, becomes a crippling addiction. The entire industry is generally bright, vivid, and almost even designed to draw you in. In japan, its crazy how often anime is used in advertisements to sell some product or concept. Remember the whole Earth-can thing? Fucking polymorphed the earth into a cute anime girl, going, "save Earth-chan!" and it fucking WORKED. It's also oversexualized as hell, which is another trap.

Its easy to pick up these wish fulfillment stories and just lose yourself in them, too. Its why stories surrounding highschool students are so wildly popular, regardless of what genre or setting you place them in. Not only are plenty of readers of that age, its also the age widely considered to be amongst the best time of your youth.

Yet plenty of people who enjoy anime didn't have their own "springtime of youth" so live vicariously through these stories. And over time, that becomes an addiction. The stories are just better than real life for them.

So when those people perceive some threat to their fantasy worlds, like a rival male or female character intruding upon their harem...they get wildly defensive.
