The more I browsed the NU, more it become apparent. Either it is some sort of forgettable image (with terrible quality), or nothing but text (which is too, forgettable).

Even the most basic cover in SH are miles better than the crap China is putting.

Probably because they are

hell with how copy and paste and nonsensical the stories are I'd bet 90% or more are AI generated themselves

You mean those lil things that look more like balls or dolls than actual people on white background?

I think it's just a sort of trend, like since a while ago all the companies are oversimplifying their logos. Just that it's only in China. And since we have little contact with those, they are all very simple, and chinese houses look all the same to us, there isn't anything differentiating them and making them memorable.

Though I think you could say the same about Korean novels, and basically any other. Just that we are more exposed to those, so we are more likely to remember smaller details.

WAIFULABS? Pfft, please....i pick my covers from images i like from google. All the worlds worth of artists at our fingertips and some of yall choose waifulabs...
meh, its got some good stuff too tho.
Picrews are also useful. My pfp is from one, and (not to sound narcisisstic, but) it looks great, and much more unique than whatever I'd get from Waifulabs.

The basic good thing about Waifulabs is that you don't need to spend half a day searching for something remotely matching your lead.

I've heard that some webtoons and comics are indeed going the route of using AI-generated art for backgrounds.

I have mixed feelings about it, but it's understandable given how hellish their schedules can be. Plus if someone is an author but doesn't know how to draw, AI is an easy way to generate a cover and illustrations (which I also have mixed feelings about, because as an artist I think you should commission us lol, but again it's understandable)

Chinese people have higher IQs on average but are less creative.

Because cn authors also need to pay money for covers? Not every author has time, skills, or money to have a cover made by named artists. And believe it or not, they write to make money (!!!) so they can't use a pic they don't own rights from.

Using AI for backgrounds is genius. Why have mixed feelings about it? :blob_hmm_two: Use AI to make better art! :blob_uwu:

I have not been to NU in ages, so could you please post some examples of the ones that look AI generated to you?
I have played with some AI art generators lately, and I still don't think they are up to snuff for the level of art I want for my story.

I randomly picked this three on the front page. They look like someone sent prompt to AI, and then slapped some label on it, except the first. The first one if looked closely, the proportions of the girl ain't right.

Still better than cucks who stole SAO, Solo Leveling and other popular works' art, plaster their names on it and call it a day.

Fyi, your first example seems to be Rem with long hair.

Ps. Not talking about fanfics, but rather, actual works that have nothing to do with the pic and the author just wants someone famous to attract readers.

I understand them. I am an author, I know how to draw but it is so bothersome. AI are just too useful for lazy people like me

Feed your prompt to Craiyon and you would get something between laughable and cursed.
