I read this today, and I can't help but agree. I now unashamedly declare myself a conspiracy theorist and, as one, I am morally obligated to try and convince as many of you as I can to join me.

Suppose for example that a cure for diabetes is discovered. People with a genetic tendency to diabetes will then be able to survive and reproduce as well as anyone else. Natural selection against genes for diabetes will cease and such genes will spread throughout the population. (This may be occurring to some extent already, since diabetes, while not curable, can be controlled through the use of insulin.) The same thing will happen with many other diseases susceptibility to which is affected by genetic degradation of the population. The only solution will be some sort of eugenics program or extensive genetic engineering of human beings, so that man in the future will no longer be a creation of nature, or of chance, or of God (depending on your religious or philosophical opinions), but a manufactured product.

Kind of a backward logic though. If it spreads because it doesn't matter anymore, why go to such lengths to eradicate it?

I don't think it necessarily won't happen, but if, then I doubt it will just be "genetic degradation" through diseases that can now be suppressed that gets fixed or bred out. Even traits of healthy people that helped them survive better back then are now redundant to even harmful. Who needs ceaseless craving for energy rich foods in an environment where nutrition is abundant?

It's like irony: you never know how many levels you're on.

My wife has LAM. Imagine the worst of an autoimmune disease and cancer combined and turning your lungs into scar tissue.

Now covid works by takinging over cells via ACE2 receptors. Guess what LAM attacks? Where most people get Covid spend days without knowing and then they get sick, her immune noticed covid immediately and basically kicked it out in like two days.

Many genetic illnesses have a reason why they exist. Sickle cell anemia gave recessive carriers immunity to many diseases. Thinking we know what's best for our species genetically is a joke.

You are never outside it's influence and you can't simply see what is true and what isn't. I think of it kind like black holes or gravity. You can't observe them, but you can observe their effects. It's the dissonance between what we see in the media and what's really happening in our lives that breeds conspiracy theory.

For me it's chance vs engineering.
Both work by trial and error.
But engineering sounds like the better pick to me when you want existence to care about emotional attachments.
