Is there a point to rankings?

I don't really understand what I'm seeing. Says I'm #40 in Youkai, but... out of what? thirty-nine other stories? lol

I guess I understand Royal Road better because I've been on there for over two years. Over here, I have no idea how to gauge the community, the number of writers, etc. I don't even know what it takes to get on a trending list.

If you click on the tag it shows you how many stores are in that tag group. It'll also show the ratings and views on those stories so you can gauge the popularity of the genre and the general "quality."

In regards to getting on the trending list, normally it takes a sudden splurge in growth to get there. We don't know the exact details and if we did then it would get changed. So it's in everyone's best interest to understand that getting on trending just requires a sizeable increase in views and readers.

not unless you're top 10 in some tag.
example if you top ten in fantasy tag you got clout.
but not if you are in some obscure tag like ten people even are in.like...i dunno playboy mc or some shit

Bragging rights and popularity, and also better chance of people finding you.

Some people look for 'tentacle rape' but they didn't know what they wanted. So if they found a story that is at #4 of 'tentacle rape', naturally, they'd want to read more 'tentacle rape'. So they would click the 'tentacle rape' to see all the other stories with 'tentacle rape' tag. If you are at #1 of 'tentacle rape', of course people who look for 'tentacle rape' would click on your story.
