I don't often bring up the fact that I edit for a small press because we have a monstrous slush pile and I don't have time to take on new projects, but I want you all to be aware of this scam in case you are seeking employment as an editor or proofreader, or pretty much anything, really.

Since yesterday, I've gotten emails from three individuals who've caught onto the scam. My managing director may have heard from more people, as he is a more logical person to contact over such matters, but anyway, there's at least one scammer on Upwork posing as my company. Here are the scammer's job interview questions:

Given how generic most of these questions are, I'm sure my company is not the only company out there being used to scam people. Be smart, be safe, and make sure you do a video chat with a potential employer before signing anything. Ask them questions.

any online employer who asks more than seven questions and enquire as to bank details in their initial proposal is immediately sketchy.

Also, this one asks for "3 genuine and specific reasons why you should be hired by the company" without naming the company. It's clearly a list they can copy and paste no matter which company they are posing as.
