Wait it is? Also I'm technically not preaching.
If it invokes discussion or meant to provide opinion or expound on the beliefs of any religion, that's against the no religion rules.

Threads and posts related to religion and politics are banned. The topic is too volatile.

As a Christian it is my duty, and joy, to edify others of the faith. As for what it means to edify: to build up. To say something to strengthen another's faith. To remind you that you are loved by God and forgiven for your sins. Also Making people smile.

I don't know how to use emojis on the forum but Imagine I'm giving you a really intense thumbs up.
Well, you can make a group conversation if you want, it does sound very lovely

You're correct. I also know that Jerusalem, omitting the "Jer" for "Jew" (w's didn't exist yet), uru meant "found", and I'll get to "salem" in a second after this: Jerusalem translates into "Jewish foundation of "Salem"". Jerusalem used to be a Canaanite city and "Salem" was their god of dusk. History is interesting, truly... I want to know why you brought up Constantinople/Istanbul (which both have the same translation).
I brought it up because op is trying to edify Christianity, which Paul asked for the reason. I made a joke about op's motive being to do the crusades again and that's how we got the 1204 A.D incident and its lasting consequences on the Orthodox branch.

And I do know that Istanbul is a corrupted version of how Greeks called the city. A lot of names are like that, especially when put through the Anglicization filter.

Thank you for responding and helping me understand. :blob_cookie:

Yeah, that causes all kinds of confusion throughout history. I have a tendency to call it "bastardization". :blob_dizzy:

Corruption is the more commonly used term by linguists and academics. And it gets confusing especially with things like inventions and native produce. Since a lot of languages just use loan words for many things that have foreign origin. Overall, etymology is really interesting. Such as when it extends to slurs.

I was raised Catholic, and I still believe some parts of the story, but given that the Bible was written by men, and at least one of those men was a jerk, I don't follow things to the letter. I believe that there is a little bit of God in everyone, so the way I pray is very personal. I pray to Jesus sometimes, but I don't do it often.

Umm... I don't remember what its called, but I got registered as a member of some christian church... back when I were still and infant I think... and I pay some related taxes... Weddings, funerals, etc, tend to involve priests and churches and such as well, but beyond those, I am not really involved...

I think Jesus is kind of like King Arthur, or Merlin, or such, in that maybe he is based on a real person who lived long ago, or maybe he is multiple historical figures rolled into one, or maybe he is as fictional as Darth Vader... In any case, I don't believe any supernatural events ever happened...

Am I a christian?

Based on how you described it, no.
