Humor me if you will, but what do you make of a country that sells itself as a republic (power to the people) but still has the monarchs and the royal family in power? Like, the country itself has elections, rigged or otherwise, and the ruling party remains unchanged for the past decades. Also, while the royalties seldom openly display their powers, they can still get people under them to nudge at the background.

I would like to put that a puppet monarch with the mastermind prime minister also counts in the question I asked.

Quick sidenote, don't go political as best as you can though.

Alright, so, not applying much logic but purely using real life examples, it would work.
Would it work nicely?
No.
But it would work!
The most likely reason a country would do this is that it has been done for generations,
By this point, I am sure the princes know the dangers of a civil war, or another country intervening. Or just normal war in general. Hence, I don't think they will be much oppressive. Oppression of free speech? Probably. Gays? Most probably. But nothing great like every girl who turns 18 has to sleep with the prince.

Sure, it can go psedo dictatorship, but we shall keep that as an exception.

Take a look at the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Papacy, and Hamilton's ideal government.

All of these can be considered 'elective monarchies'. Or you could use constitutional monarchies if you wish.

Sounds a lot like my country, the ruling party hasn't changed since the last 70 years, and although the dictator is long gone, but as is always the case with third world banana republics democracy is only on paper with the same political party in power, with rigged elections, nepotism, corrupt politicians involved in drug trafficking, and money laundering, prostituted judicial system, high rates of poverty, lots of abuse of human rights, our police is a joke they only work with bribes, our military isn't even a joke, they don't work at all.

Not fond of it but at least it's better than actual brazen dictatorships. As long as the proper channels are still open for opposition, it's fine, I guess?

As long as the government generally leaves media and the Internet alone (again, not a black or white thing because while I believe that some select ideas irl should not be given avenue, the government should leave the stuff like... what we write here on SH or the Hollywood movies or the anime we watch, the video games we play, whether it be violent stuff or eroge, etc, alone), I'm up for it.

The reason I like democracy is not because of the whole "power to the people" thing because it is also democracy's biggest weakness, but because it's the style of governance which allows for a voice of opposition to build and opens the window for the stuff (even the more "questionable" ones) people write here, for example, without physical consequences. Flawed but better than the alternative.

Optimally an aristocratic republic that only allows landed het-married Christian men with 3 children that elects a monarch

When the government fails to keep its hand on the culture, degeneracy and the sort spreads. Turns men into weak materialistic coomers who are then controlled by the 1%

That’s literally the UK. Queen is just a figurehead that is a puppet monarch, not necessarily to a mastermind prime minister but to what controls that prime minister

What do I make of a shared monarch and republic government...

It 'could' work if powers are separated. But once the corruption sets in civil war is basically inevitable.

Well, democracy and a republic are not exactly the same thing. A true democracy would have actual people voting, but since everyone is too lazy for that, we have a republic where representatives do so on our lazy behalves. But the power is still held in the representatives, not exactly the people.

Generally, most countries that call themselves "People's republics" are dictatorships. It is pretty clear they are overcompensating for something with their name. Double speak so to say.

As far as royal families go, as long as they have no direct political power, it isn't that big of an issue. Unfair? Yes. But it is no different then any other wealthy person in a country who has connections and power. Only difference is that they are in the limelight.

For those that have the same person as leader for decades, dictatorship. For those same party, hmm... I wouldn't outright call it a dictatorship, but it is probably fine? I mean it depends on the circumstances. Historically, many countries where nobles gave up power to turn into a republic despite turning into a party that has been in control have been stable and wealthier. And it has been shown eventually, they do lose power. Now when one political party takes over, those never end well.

PS The optimum form of government is humans ruled over by cats.

Since i am not a citizen of the said country i can care less
But if you ask me this is better. There doesn't exist democracy! The smart rules, they manipulate the mass and get the seat. While that itself is praiseworthy imo. But in the end they are trash. Reason they are boring! For example the ministers of my country(idk bout other) just get powers and that's it. Like wtf! Do some wild shit please. General citizen needs some entertainment! Besides we can't even talk on the level of world power. SUCKS!
Anyways, royalty with bit of republicanism is better imo. That way if needed the monarch can shut everyone and do stuff since general population are mostly dumb. They do some weird shit. While a corrupt democrisy is worse.

I think that because they want to sell an image that they are the good guys. As society progress, the need of the people change. After the enlightenment and the subsequence of the France revolution, the idea that only a single group of people is the only one that holds the power seems as old or even downright evil. Of course, the ones in power, the nobles, the rich, the general, the religious leader, doesn't want these change. After all, once you have the power you will spend the rest of your life keeping it. So they need to make an image or illusion of power, that the people are the ones that hold the power.

Besides, sometimes if it works, it works. Some people don't like change. Because a change in government can mean a revolution. A revolution brings uncertainly. Uncertainty brings fears. People don't like fears.

So long as their need is fulfilled. So long it brings stability. So long as they keep distracted by trivial things. People don't care about whos in charge.

Which as I said, I see as the far better alternative than the image of rigid, "suck it up" strongmen that some societies want. But I guess the whole thing's just a matter of principle and worldview so we can leave it at that.

The rigid-ness is a good thing. In the modern era the fusion of capitalism and meritocracy has turned man’s view of his community from something to escape rather than a set of friends he should cherish and trust. The fusion of the two have led to serve psychological consequences in the first world, as long as the second. The traditional set up of hierarchal aristocraticism is superior to the flesh of hardship and thought

Like... UK ? I don't know... but...

Given what crazy ludicrous nonsense people by the billions seem to believe in... The idea that all the people in power must please the masses... Do what their retarded voters want... Rather than the rational thing... Or lose their power... Seems a bit scary...

A republic is the same as time-limited nobles ruling a country, so there's no problem squishing real royalty inbetween
