There are five (major) hidden villages in naruto: sand, cloud, stone, mist, leaf

These hidden villages lead are in 5 different elemental lands and led by 5 different elemental kages, based on the 5 element they have in the story: wind, lightning, earth, water, fire. This list should be the one you use.

I like it because it goes full circle when it comes to which element wins against which. There's a sense of game-like fairness to it, like a cooler rock-paper-scissor and. It makes it feel like any element you pick is fine because you'd have enemies you'd be strong or weak against.

Avatar's 4 elements is classic, but even though they'd say fire is the opposite of water, I can't get it out of my mind that water absolutely wins against fire and never the other way around. It feels like there's no advantage to picking fire because you'd have something you're weak against but nothing you're strong against. Except fire is probably the strongest element in avatar.

Other stories feature a bunch more elements, which is logical because it's weird to divide everything in the world in just those 4 or 5 things. But I feel that I've never found anything as 'neat' as naruto's circular elemental system.

I had to go ying-yang. According to the ancient philosophy light and dark in different mixtures make up the other elements.

Basically pick this one and you can get em all.

You forgot the eastern elements Earth>Water>Fire>Metal>Wood
Wood holds earth drinks water quenches fire melts metal cuts wood
Which also has the bonuses Wood^Fire^Earth^Metal^Water
Wood fuels fire(ash) enriches earth(ores) harbor metal drips (dew)water grows wood.

Isn't flying the same as air?
I always thought that pokemon should have a separate elements of “air” or “wind” instead of just “flying.”
But musing further, I think pokemon types are more used to describe the characteristics of the pokemon, and not really about their attacks, which I guess is why there’s no “air” type — “air” doesn’t exactly describe something that someone can be.

Also yin and yang plus all the element combinations

none of them are good as the semen element doesn't exist in em
Pokemon has that, it's just hidden in the Bug type. "String Shot."

Most just default to either the five chinese elements or the four alchemical base elements, so just take whatever you want/need out of those and mash it with whatever elements (pun intended) you need.

The naruto elements are just variations of the basic chinese ones, btw.
