So, consider this,

You...are a being.
You feast on goodness of hearts, and are repelled by evil of heart.

Since good people are such a rare resource, you are sometimes forced to eat neutral people, who just have a bit of both goodness and evilness.

There exists another being.
He is similar to you, he too feasts on good people and is repelled by evil.

Both of you are independent, and aren't connected with each other in anyway other than competing for the same resource. There also only exists only two of such beings in this world.

Both of you are pretty much identical in behaviour and way of talking. Both are charming, and quite seductive. A person who is easy to talk to, a great listener and a good speaker; both are more interested in academics more than sports, and while they can talk a great deal about philosophical, political, and other adult matters, they prefer to act jolly and talk about light hearted topics. They both also share an interest in pottery and many other children toys.

While both these beings are identical in majority of ways, they share a few differences.

But the few differences they share are completely polar opposites.
One like dogs, while other does cats.
One likes tea while other does coffee.
One has white hair while other has black.
One is left handed while other is right handed,
And many other minor differences, all of which exist in contrasting pair.

One major difference between them is, while one can identify good people, but cannot differentiate evil people from neutral; the other can do the opposite, he can find evil people, but cannot separate good from neutral.


What would these beings called?

Alters?
Same people from different timeline/dimensions?
Two sides of the same coin?
Two of same kind?
Birds of same flock?

I kinda want to go with alter or two sides of same coin purely because it sounds cool, but.,,since these are two independent beings, hence alter will be a misnomer, considering it is famously attached to alternate personalities only.

Although that is necessarily true. I put in the term High Muckamucks to separate them a bit. They are influential important beings that have the ability to discern a person's good or evil side. The Yin is the one who can sense evil and the Yang is the one who can sense good. Though I get where you're coming from.

I mean, I’m not quite sure what’s the setting of this story would be, but when I say “The others” The name is mostly taking into consideration how these beings are different from normal humans, like they look similar to normal humans and everything but are still different, hence why the others.

Well if It was up to me, they’d probably refer to each other as, ‘That bastard’ ?

Scientifically, most of what we call happiness is from neurotransmitters such as dopamine or endorphins. "To eat" in Latin is "manducare" according to google. I feel this applies since they gain sustenance from happiness. This gives us the building-blocks of manducare and neurotransmitters. Slap them together and you get "manduneuro." Manduneuro sounds like a starwars thing but I'm not sure if futuristic is the vibe you're going for. I'm happy either way since this was fun to come up with.

Edit: I realize we can do the same thing but replace the neuro part with the neurotransmitters I mentioned earlier to make "dopamandu," "mandumine," "endomandu," "endomandu," "dopacare," (which sounds like a painkiller) "caremine," "endocare," or "carophins."

I started looking at the etymology of things. Like Opposite. for example which also is described by contrary (or even Contrasts).

So how about the "Cons" short for contrasts.

Outside of that, start looking at the etymology of words. you can find things in them.

Since they are not total opposites, most of the suggestions do not apply. Remember, it's only in some minor things that they are different. The one major difference is who they can detect.

I'd suggest something more generic, like "the competitors" or "the wolves" (since they feast on people).

Other terms could be "the stalkers" or "the feeders". Depending on how twisted your story really is, you could go with "the gourmets".
