Why Kingdom Building? A question I would like to know from writers and would-be's.

The only good reason why I dropped Realist King on a good note is when it was at the early phase where everything is still good and normal during the MC challenging the empire phase, so everything is wrapped up nicely.

*Also I have figured that now would be a good time to continue typing my story... then the construction work hits me like a migraine*

Then I asked myself, why do I hate the latest (free) shit in Oracle Paths, featuring Jake having to smack the king who lost his kingdom into submitting under his rule?

Because Kingdom Building is like an upstart and that shit's tiring af.

In Defiance of the Fall, Zac the bald man had to do murderfuck his way around Earth and onto the multiverse like a door-to-door salesman to get capital and sell his service. Especially when no one wants to be serviced (chop chop) by him.

Kingdom Building is another form of wish fulfilment for authors and readers who might never be commited enough to start a company and make it big. If being a loner in jianghu with nothing in their pocket except their skills is like getting out of school with nothing on your back but your cert and murder their way to the top of the food chain is like you climbing up the social ladder, then starting up a company with you being the CEO becomes the target for all youths with their aspirations lit.

Which makes me want to cringe whether or not if it is poorly done. Because when reading the stories, I can still feel RL is still pressing on the back of my head, egging the characters in the book to do shit.

From getting supply (support) to having to take in retrenched managers for their skills while risking hostile takeovers, the entire thing will be a fun experience for people who enjoy it.

I don't really enjoy it. Maybe the CN style being the invisible CEO while the game of corporate competition is at the background had gave me the wrong view of how one should do IRL, but watching Jake in OP having to deal with a bunch of disgrunted old fucks while the author is trying to make him sound cool is cringy.

I dropped Supreme Magus because it is (still) dragging around with Lith being Lit. From a Dragon to a Bird (and got mofumofu by the local tyrant desert woman) to now talking about some godshit and bachelor party, the story failed to engage me. But at least no BS kingdom building.

And then there is the World Government, be they incompetent like in DoF or hypercompetent like in OP, they remains ti be evil. Cuz facists are evil. Duh.

I would throw in Randidly but he only helped to protect the village. No one liked him and even wanted to beat him so that they can say "we no longer need you" in a good way... right...

Every webnovel I read nowadays features an MC who is a combatant or some sort of leader figure who work to build their organization. To me, kingdom building is the answer to: why does every MC has to be some sort of murderer?
Kingdom building MC is what I read when I'm looking for something that doesn't feature a combatant MC, because only those two things are appealing to read.
About the only recent story I've read that doesn't feature a combatant MC or a kingdom-building MC is that hollywood reincarnation story whose MC is a movie director.
Outside of novels though, I read a lot of SoL that just features some cute girls playing in a band or cooking. It's only in webnovels where I could mostly only find engagement if the MC is either a combatant or some sort of organization leader.

In most novels and mangas you'll end up with a kingdom sized cast anyway, why not just call it a kingdom?

"Our Guild/Sect/Band/Cocking club has over 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 members and we're still just sitting in a shed..." does not sound logical and/or practical at all.

Also, people need a home, so why not go full megalomaniac and start with a kingdom?

True true.

Though if you do it like DoF and OP, it kinda sucks as you try to do it halfassed and everything crumbles like a sandcastle.

The thing I hate the most about many kingdom buildings stuff (including negotiations and shits) is that the authors treated the whole thing as if it was office experience.

I get that there are many similarities, but do they need to bring the entire atmosphere of the office into fantasy?

If I want office drama, there is no shortage on netflix and all other channels.

Surely there will be many thing that would be the same but could we cut some slack for the bully, strong-weak high school bargain, and a bunch of other thing?

It’s nothing wrong with having those, but I want something new.
