Too much candy rots the teeth and too much xianxia rots the brain.

If you are going to make your world into a hypercompetitive and cutthroat, don't make even the ferryman/ taxi driver/ every stranger you meet outside your house a fuckwit robber.

That is not making the world look evil, that's just makes it petty and dumb.

I understand the importance of strife in novels, because without them, the story has no tension. That is why we have petty nobles, shitty guild receptionists and thugs called adventurers, but every single one of them seems to lack something like common sense and survival instinct. This is actually explainable when most of their victims are not important enough to cause a problem to them, so they continue on. Which must have been a shocker to them when MC comes in to rock their shit. You can have successes in your life, you can have near misses but all it takes is that one fuckup and you can go meet your ancestors. How lucky/ naive one must be to continue on with crime?

I am not saying that to write the world until like rainbows and sunshine, you can make a world gritty with tough enemies. Throwing in bandits, con artists and problematic higher ups are okay, throwing in suicidal bandits, short sighted conmen and problematic higher ups who don't know when to fold are just retarded.

I am in agreement with most of what you wrote. But you know sometimes in the real world:
Bandits/Pirates:
And Higher ups:

Game mentality, I guess. Those guys are just NPCs with the only purpose of becoming exp for the player (Or in this case, the main character).

Yeah not sure about you but most people want to live, in the average xianxia people exist to just scream at you and die.

Calling how people in those stories unrealistic us an understatement. Very few people are that cruel, and retarded.

Also the only people that think so single mindedly are drug addicts, and even they have both a short term and long term objective that they are going for.

Well, the MC of Worth the Candle did state that leveling up feels like the best orgasm one can ever feel and with each level up, the climax gets higher and higher.

So I do expect people to have that sort of high as they continue to cultivate to higher levels. That and stepping on others brings out some sadistic joy as well.

See, that is a problem in actuality, stabbing mobs and watch the numbers of treasure/ level/ NTRed women go up do bring out the happy chemical in my mind, but over time it gets stale. Not even putting up a purple name or calling the guy you are about to explode "God of Gods" can make me happy.

Now I need some skin ripping, bone mashing and dog raping shit to feel some a speck of happiness, hail slaanash I guess.

But to me, it is horrible writing/ game design as it is less on engaging me and more like dragging me through gore and gore and rape and gore. It is not fun anymore, it is tedious.

You really should stop reading Chinese novels and start fucking writing and uploading so we could collectively bash your story instead of working as free psychotherapists.
After seeing your profile, nah.

The Mc need the motive to kill them, and they give it to him readily.
They are really walking experience bags often called stepping stones in Xianxia settings when one can only grow stronger by fighting and killing.

As someone said above, they are just addicted to cultivation. So their brains do not function too well

Sounds like too much Thomas Hobbes to me
