Actually noticed so many threads at a row that what is good for what. So just this specific question came to mind. There are so many different people here. Obviously you have used many sites. So I just want to compare which site is more better and which forum is more friendly.

For me, SH is a lot better and friendly than some others I have used recently

This is the only site I've used. It's the only writing site I knew of until recently besides Devaintart and fanfiction.net, and I don't even know if the latter still exists. I don't feel like my writing has much overlap with the SH audience especially what I'm writing at the moment, but the ui is the cleanest looking and that's all I really care about. As for the forums I've tried looking at some other writing-based forums in the last few weeks, and I either don't understand what is going on, don't care about what is going on, or just find it all boring in general.

I gazed into RR forums one day and vow never to set foot in there ever.

And that was after I saw some comments on some works, Jesus those fuckers are so stabby stabby that I thought that the author had probably fucked their mom.

RoyalRoad is definitely not for the faint hearted. A lot of users there expect a Pulitzer-prize level work from newbies, and would bomb you with lowest rating if your piss them off just because they can't take the bullying content found in your work.

Honeyfeed is chill. Though, as others say, it's rare for new work to get noticed there, especially the ones who are irregular in updates. Anime-ish style works, with lots of -chan, -kun and other JP honorifics.

WebNovel is kinda...ugh, toxic. I've encountered a lot of nitpickers there (like that Jamaican who kept on nitpicking for half a day while I answer his nitpicks), but I also got a few loyal readers from the start of my publishing to present. Even their 'Author Support' is not supporting you.

Syosetsu? Nah. Japanese rarely interact with English authors, though they try to at times. Language barrier. The legend of their politeness is true, even to works they have difficulty in understanding.

Pixiv. All that I got there are views, likes and bookmarks.

Penana. I'm weirded out by that one user who accused me of stealing my own artwork because someone from his dreams told him so. Site-wise, they love K-Pop fanfics there.

Inkitt...for ladies. Lots of 'Alpha' stories there. But I use Inkitt to format my chapters, before copy-pasting them to other sites.

CreativeNovels...pretty much a bad copy of SH and RR, but you can see your audience grow with views, and bookmarks.

Wattpad. Dead site. At least I got one reader there who appreciates my work. (The rest are my former students)

And last, but not the least, ScribbleHub. Friendly community, though it had its share of weirdos (like me) and a few snowflakes.

I'm sorry, what?
Yeah, you read right. And we have the same reaction too.

I like RR for how novel chapters display better on mobile with java off. Though I only use SH forums, because the bright idea of having recently posted threads on the main page does get me to click ever now and then.

Pretty much this. Otherwise I probably would never have wandered into the forums here.

Spent a lot of time on both SH and RR forums. In the past, I'd say SH is friendliest, but now, I'd vote for RR forums. Something funny is happening at RR forums. Many are familiar with RR readership, and how brutal they can be, so currently, the forum is becoming a safe haven for writers to comfort each other. On the arguments' side, I find that SH argument threads can go into insane routes. RR forum arguments are pretty tame. There is a problem though that appears on both sites, but might be more common in RR forum, and that's downrating someone's story because they said something you don't like on the forums.

Very rare occurrence and I don't have the numbers for it, I just feel like it happens more on RR. Or it could just be because there are more people there too, so more chances of it happening. If you're down on your writing though, RR forums is a good place to find comfort. I don't know why there was this weird shift only recently even though RR was way more brutal in the past.

Ranking forums:
1) nuf
2) shf
3) rrlf
4) some other forums like, I dunno, wattpad or smth.
5-100000000) other forums of lesser known sites with like 100 active users
...) dead forums
...) satanistic fetishism forums
The very bottom) wn

Nuf about as good as shf. It does have more activity and fewer trolls. It also has some very good long-living threads with lots of discussions, as well as a more active chapter discussion section.
RRL has a forum but I haven't touched it much and it doesn't seem that active.
Wn is garbage, along with all the shit they are associated with, and you should avoid it with a ten-foot pole.
As for the platforms themselves, as a reader, I prefer rrl, since it has more solid ranking systems, it actively showcases reviews and it's easier to find good novels there. SH is good, but trending novels are more about "they are active and alive and probably have smut/bl/gl/gb in them. Check it out", rather than "good shit. Novel updates... It's complicated, I guess? There are more good novels, just because if someone has translated it, it probably means it is worth translating to the translator at least. The novel discussion, the lcd sections also make searching easier and "looking for" probably leads to pretty good results when you are new. After a while, it's kinda... Not bad but less than stellar. Wn is, again, garbage, even to a reader, so I will avoid mentioning it henceforth in this post.
As a writer, I guess both rrl and SH are good? SH has a better UI for reader interaction and actually notifies you when you have new comments/replies, which is great and seems basic enough that it's weird that rrrl doesn't have it. Haven't posted on other sites.
Edit: I know nothing about rrl readers being harsher. The most criticism I have got was an actual review and some typo-spotting (which is a feature there but isn't necessary for SH since here you can just quote). And I write some weird shit at times

More comfortable forums that I've found so far have been:

1) NUF -> Xenforo v1.5 does have some limitations, but the fact is, Tony knows how to use it better, and he bought more plugins for it, so NUF has some nicer features overall. Most notably, Blogs and Alerts when someone you're following make a new thread.

2) SHF -> Xenforo v2.0 is definitely better than v1.5, but it's still lacking in features, so I find NUF more comfortable to use overall... Also, using emojis on SHF mobile is really annoying.

3) Gamefaqs -> I like the overall display of the site. There is a severe lack of quality of life features on it, but it's definitely pretty comfortable and useful once you get used to browsing it.

4) Steam Discussions -> I do enjoy the overall display of it, but the complete lack of any form of organization in the discussions really leave a lot to be desired... Search function is also very barebones, which doesn't help... At least the guides section is nice.

5) Reddit -> Uhn... The system as a whole just kinda sucks? I wish I could at least see people's avatars as I talk to them in order to make them easily recognizable... It's useful, but God, it really sucks.
------

As for friendliness... I'll just go with NUF and SHF. The overall feeling in those two forums is just really light-hearted and lovely, which is quite drastically different from almost every website out there, as they tend to be the self-proclaimed most toxic place of the internet.

Recently joined NUF but I have no idea what anyone is talking about in most of the threads. It is friendly though.

Steam forums are one of the best places to go if you want a quick laugh. Especially the forums for games that have been removed for being low-quality asset flip shovelware, the older the better.. Since they are almost never moderated.

SH definitely more dynamic and mentally diverse than many other forums I've been on, I love the moderation's approach toward free speech

I came over here after I got kicked off Wattpad. I've used several more sites including Royal Road, Writing.com, Webnovel, and more. SH is the best!
