In the distant future, will/should the save button ever change?

Save button, should it change?

I saw this

Floppy disks have more or less been phased out for ages a lot of people have never held one in their hands in real life

Do you think the button for saving should stay the same?

If not, what would you suggest a better icon for saving is? Imagine it is space ages with FTL spaceship and stuff.

The only other save icons I can remember off the top of my head is a hard drive with an arrow pointing down at it, so probs that. But I like the idea of keeping it as a floppy disk, even tho in hundreds of years people will probably look at it and be like "what does this symbol represent?" as if looking at hieroglyphics. Well, probably not because unless there's some sort of a major incident, the records will likely remain on the internet, or whatever future version of information storage/transfer/whatever there is

My opinion on the matter is that floppy disks, while aren’t prevalent in today’s society, are still the best way to show something being saved, as other electronic devices that save data don’t have very simple icon-like forms. Anyway, that’s why my vote is on Potato.

it's like reinventing an already perfect wheel. hell, even Apple, who obsessively makes worse updates with every MacOS iteration (32-bit support my ass), still keeps the floppy disk icon as a save button.

it's akin to corporations simplifying logos. what the fuck is wrong is Dunkin' Donuts? why the fuck is it just Dunkin' now? what's wrong with Donuts?

I still have a question, why do we even have floppy disk as a save point rather than a bed?

I say down with floppy disk and return to bed supremacy!

And don't question me on my sleeping addiction. I choose my coping mechanism.

our computers literally have a sleep function for that

actually, why ISN'T the sleep icon displayed as a bed? it's always either a circle or some wacky symbol akin to a circle. it's LITERALLY called SLEEP? why not?

Because what better way to say "SAVE" then showing a picture of an old archive medium.

I imagine far in the future the act of needing to save would be an obsolete thing, as programs will be constantly saving all the time, and the need for the button will disappear before a new icon ever be devised.

There might still be a button for exporting something tho.

I think that it's less that, and more that they don't have any distinctive appearances.

Sets program to autosave after every keystroke.
