Let's say you have a baby, and the baby loves to get his hands on everything, so you might want a plastic one, but the ceramic ones look better. If you were my husband, which one would you want?

If it's his first ocarina go with a good plastic one. IIRC "night by noble" is pretty much the standard beginner ocarina. Plastic with a good consistent sound.
I only ever used a cheapo one so I don't have first-hand information but that's what I always read on Reddit lol

Depends. Is he going to be playing it, using it for a costume item, or displaying it in a display case? If he's playing it or having it around the house at all while there's a toddler to worry about, definitely go with plastic. Same for the costume item. The only reason to consider ceramic is if it's going to be primarily for display, and there is a place to display it that is out of reach of young children.

Does playing the ocarina on his phone count as his first ocarina?

He was talking about wanting a musical instrument to keep him from playing so many video games, so yes, I think plastic is the right choice here.

Someone say plastic?
This one only requires about 4 hours of patience and $2 of materials...
