Any isekai stories out their that aren't about a basic Medieval McEuropean fantasyland?

I am kind of tried seeing poor attempts at people writing a poorly constructed version of Feudalism in their isekai stories, know any stories that don't have this? Or at least write the Feudal properties well?

You could try more 'prehistory' stories like mine, but I agree with you about the really tired old feudal europe tropes in isekais. If I have to read noblesse oblige one more time, I might brick my monitor! :)

You can try mine where it takes place on an archipelago. There are no aristocrats, just village elders. The mc is a blind girl who sees the world by sensing mana and studies Mana.

You know, there are Chinese novels where mc gets reincarnated into cultivation worlds. :blob_wink:
Sorry, but I loathe those stories even more than feudal European stories. It isn't really the culture it is usually the characters... and the plot, and the bullshit magic system, and the harem that has no purpose but smut.
I hope u arent talking about my story. ?
Nah, I am just calling out authors that half bake their world's government system without any effort or research put into it. Otherwise I'd have to put my story in the 'loathe' category.

It was a joke answer, so I hold no grudge. There is a fair share of isekai stories where mc gets into the future. Perhaps those stories can help you. And I mean not only Chinese\Japanese\Korean but English ones as well. As for actual recommendations, I can't remember any at the moment. Someone else will suggest you a story, as people like to self-promote.

It's okay I understand.
Oh I forgot the communist propaganda can't forget that.

It would be pretty funny if someone just went around eliminating cultivators with a gun. All of that training just to be shot by some jackass with a 45 long slide.

we're talking about people who can tank way stronger things than a lil bit of metal being shot at them, but yeah. Some kinda gun-like magical artifact maybe. Lol MC of Star Odyssey did that for a while. He was able to find a powerful gun, upgraded it like crazy, and used it to kill powerhouse cultivators several entire realms above him until he ran out of bullets. Heh, it was a total mcguffin

It makes me think it would be a pretty neat idea if some dude in a cultivation novel with no cultivation abilities was wondering around with a cursed weapon of some kind killing evil cultivators.

Damn I kinda want to make that a story.

I suppose my story could qualify. The first one maybe not so much, but the second takes place in an organization made up of ex-isekai protagonists and the little society they've set up for themselves. The main character is a teen who got recently portalled over, but rather than go on an adventure, was rescued by this group from the evil king that would've driven him to his death in a meaningless border war. So the story is mostly about him exploring this new place this "Isekai Police" brought him and trying to find some kind of adventure through it all.

Link is in my signature, or for those on mobile: https://www.scribblehub.com/series/374876/the-isekai-police-hero-summonings-are-overrated/

Basically most fanfics?

Then there's the opposite type. Like "Everyone Else is a Returnee".
Would being in hibernation for 10,000+ years be close enough to an Isekai for you? If so, royalroadl has "Song of the Void". It's a space opera. And it's complete.

Then you're probably looking for a more scifi isekai. As magic fantasy that does not take inspiration from the medieval requires alot of original ideas or research.

Now as for better written feudalism, how would you define that? As its a pretty large subject and narrowing it down would help future discussions.

Better defined feudalism, meaning that the story does not have a medieval setting for the sake of the medieval setting, but rather the author uses a understanding of feudalism to show how their world would work and how it can contribute to the story.

Here is an example how do you feel about arranged marriages, pretty awful right? Well a government that uses a feudal system would show that these marriages aren't only wanted they are encouraged, because with the marriage following stuff could with the marriage itself: a dowry, the intertwining of two families, potential bannermen and knights to help come to your aid, financial growth, political power, a way to move up the aristocracy, preserving the bloodline of a linage, new alliances and allies as well as enemies, etc.

And that is just marriage an author that implements a government is making a system of order in the story, and a government has defined rules, make no mistake I am not here to say I need to know every move of your version of the small council, but I am saying that your government especially feudalism or an aristocracy should shape the world with its' presence and not just be for decoration.

Ah, yes, I too would like a ski slope in my beach resort.

This is not to say that all isekai authors are raving idiots who couldn't even begin to comprehend this sort of thing.
But the thing about isekai is that most aspects of the story are decorations for wish fulfillment. That's what the stories are about and if they weren't, imo you could just as well cut the isekai aspect altogether.

I'd say regular fantasy is a better bet here. No guarantee either, ofc, but higher chances from my experience.

I was more talking about ruling class vs lower class politics or perhaps vassalage or serfs? You really just make it sound like you're interested in consistency and believability.
