How do you create a story banner?

I remember when I first joined that someone told me to add a banner to my signature. I've found the signature, and I've put some words, but how do you create the banner? Do you just add your image, or do you have to create it on another site, and then upload it?

I just took my covers, put them on imgur, and then put them in my signature. Works just fine for me at least.

From my experience, Imgur is top ass. The UI is all over the place, it's way too convoluted to simply upload an image and be done with it, you aren't certain whether your image is just gonna up and fucken disappear; etc. It's an image hosting site trying to disguise itself as 9gag. I'd go for more direct image hosters like img.bb, just to be safe.

Your signature shouldn't be any bigger than the default signature size that everyone has below each of their posts.

... Almost nobody follows this rule though. It's not really enforced for the most part.

I just created an account for 9gag, but it said I was too new to make a post. I have to wait 11 hours before I can try using this site.

The signature does not reshape your image.

There is just a rule in the forums that most people don't follow:

No Videos and GIF's in your signature unless under a spoiler. Picture in signature should not be bigger than 200 px in height. Total height of your signature should not exceed 15 lines of 15px text.

So try to avoid making the image too big.

Okay. Thanks for the advice. I've just been using imgur because it's been the easiest for me.

Whut? I had issues of Imgur not reading some of my hard drives, sending up a corrupted image, the URL suddenly changing to another image without warning, difficulty in finding the image, or losing the image entirely.

best thing is usually discord. and a private server would be good. Discord has a very low chance of collapsing, and uploading an image there to turn into a link is also secure.

not really. the quality is the exact same as the file you upload. meaning, good file --> good quality.

It might lag a bit, but that usually gets fixed soon.

im only speaking from personal experience. a 7 MB image file would magically become 235 KB when I upload it to discord

"magically," you say... sounds fishy.

but for a banner, it won't really be that much of a downgrade.
