I'm looking for a novel preferably set in modern times. It can be a fantasy modern theme, but one specific detail I'm looking for. The main character has to have something unique to them. Whether that be a system in a modern world, or a magicless individual in a world depending on such abilities. The reason I don't just use the modern day tag, and spend a bit of time is I'm not limiting options to just this site. Hit me with your best shot(Fire away~)

You start with this.

And then you continue with this.

:blob_pat_sad:
I was referring to unique compared to the others in the world, but if you have something unique in general I'm all ears.

Also those were very VERY basic examples.

I mean, almost all MCs are unique compared to the others in the world. That's why they are MCs in the first place. There is a ton of Chinese novels set in the modern-day with MC being unique, usually via a system or a reincarnation\transmigration. A lot of Korean Novels are somewhat the same, with their bullshit like: "reincarnation of a colorectal surgeon", or "reincarnated as a drunkard". And of course, a shit ton of novels with dungeons and an artifact only they(MCs) have, or a system. Japanese novels are no exception. Your request is far too broad.

So, do you have something unique in general?

Check out "Solo leveling." A Khorean web-novel / web comic. It is almost, down to the letter, exactly what you are looking for.

It is basically a world where people have super-power abilities, but all the others have their abilities and the strength of their abilities set in stone from the moment they awaken. The MC is the only person in the world with the ability to improve his abilities in an RPG system-like manner.

(Solo leveling is the commonly agreed upon translation these days, but early on there were also translations that gave it the name "I alone level up.")

I would also suggest my "A New Hero God" series, but it is on the back burner still and I haven't published a chapter since getting the heaven/introduction sequence out of the way. It's not so much that he's 100% unique as he is part of a very tiny select organization that has certain abilities the rest of the world does not. He has (or rather, is planned to have) interactions with others from the organization who advise or train him, but most of his interactions are with the "normies" of the world.

What do you mean unique? More unique than the criteria you have set? Or something unique according to your criteria? If it's the latter here.

Magika no Kenshi to Shoukan Maou
Maou Gakuen no Hangyakusha
My Wife is a Beautiful CEO(pretty sure that all the copies and everything else are the same)
NEET Receives a Dating Sim Game Leveling System(discontinued and its alternative world, but it is a modern day)
Tranxending Vision
Solo Levelling

A small list of novels without trying.

What about the unique attribute being that there is nothing particularly unique about them? I feel like that’s more unique these days.

Toaru series
  • Index / Main Series - Protag can destroy any supernatural effects with his right hand
  • Accelerator - Vector Manip, Strongest guy on science side
  • Railgun - Strongest Elec Manip

A lot of battle harems, (I dont rec any of the 3 but Chivalry and Mahouka are better than IS if you still want to read them)
Infinite Stratos - Only guy capable of wielding a battle armour, all other users are girls
Chivalry of the Failed Knight - I actually dont remember much about it >.>
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei - Author made a lot of shit up so uhh he is OP af and has secret identities and unique way of using magic and stuff

Some other choices that count,
Baka to Test - Only summon with ability to interact with reality
Dxd - Ddraig's Gauntlet
DAL - Spirit sealing abilities
Owari no Chronicle - The chars are rather quirky, female lead changes gender every 12 hours or so and male lead is the grandson of the most hated man in supernatural history (and he has to clean up the mess his grandpa left) + few more stuff

Animes,
Mob Psycho 100 - Broken Psychic powers
One punch man - title
