I once had a moment burned into my mind by one of my college professors. Everyone hated him, but hey, I love to give everyone a shot. I should have listened to the others.

The one phrase he said to me that stuck to me was:

"I wish you were as smart as you are sweet."

I did not know what to do with that. But being as sweet as he made me out to be, I turned and said,

"Thank you."

I feel like maybe I should have said something else. But I learned that day I would listen to others when it came to rating professors. They may not be wrong.

If it was a compliment or an insult, I could never figure it out.

Keep in mind the second part of this course I passed with a B with another professor, while in his course the first part which I had to self teach myself I passed with a C. Physics, I thought I would have regretted not taking calculus for that class. Algebraic Physics is... horrible. Especially self-taught.

Another lesson for another life, I guess.

Has anyone had a memory like this? One memory burned into your skull, with an excellent lesson? :blob_aww:

*Edit to clarify better. I sometimes eat words, I mean to write. I don't know why.*

:blob_unsure: Why is it so hard for me to understand what you want?
I said a memory I had and asked if anyone else has memories like this. With a lesson.
Don't know where the confusion might be. I even wrote the question in another color. :sweating_profusely:

Yes, never leave your house without your keys
I can relate. This is a very important lesson indeed! Climbing through windows can be a hassle!

No offense meant I can't think straight due to a heatwave. English isn't my native language, so whenever I read something in English it is automatically translated into my native language in my head. I saw 2 different questions, and while the one in the poll is somewhat straight, I can interpret the one with a different color in different ways.

Oh! Well, I hoped I clarified it a bit better! I also hope the heat gets better for you! I live on a tropical island and well it gets hot here too... I don't go outside much in fearing of melting lol.:blob_melt:

Would love to hear any memories that come with an important lesson attached from you, though. :blob_aww: Anything from something small or big!

The thing is, I still don't get what kind of memory? Memory WITH a lesson, or a memory that made me learn something, thus turning into a lesson? If it's the first one, it is mostly about my school or college years, something about different studies and stuff like that. I like listening to different lectures and similar things. If it's the second one, well, I tried to help a girl who was getting dumped by my friend with advice. Now I don't have a friend, but he and his girlfriend are back together. Though I am happy that they are together, I learned to never meddle with anyone's interpersonal relationship, no matter romantic or platonic.

That is one lesson to learn the hard way. :blob_teary: That friend kinda sucks imo, though. You were just trying to help.

I actually don't know what was the exact reason. Though he stopped talking to me, perhaps it was a girl who was setting him up against me? I don't know, nor do I care anymore. Though what I do care about is the fact that sometimes people don't need your help. No matter what they do or how you feel.

Gosh, that girl sounds like a gorgon! Or is it a harpy? Hm... :blob_shock:

This is so true. Especially when they don't want to be saved. Sometimes it is a waste of time to try. Even when you feel it is the right thing to do.
Sometimes people need to fall and learn.

One of my professors handed us a piece of writing by Marquis de Sade. Being an honors class, everyone in the class read the whole thing. She asked us why none of us had stopped reading it. After all, she didn't actually tell us to read it in the first place.

I had a teacher in high school, former Navy, really patriotic. He would go on and on about how our education had failed us. One of the things I remember most was a metaphor he told us about burdens, comparing them to monkeys on a person's back. He basically told us to give our monkeys to others, bor shove our problems onto others. I personally reacted with "then I'll shoulder other people's monkeys/problems."

It's little wonder why I really dislike him now, but it did teach me that I'm an empathic person. Heck, a lot of my writing revolves around accepting burdens and how sharing them can help us improve, grieve, and be more satisfied.

There are quite a few... Is what I'd like to say, but frankly a lot of them have been shelved deep into my mind.
I guess the most vivid is the one when I was a kid. I ate too much candy and hid the fact. Then I span a lie, hoping that it would fly. A tiny detail was revealed shortly after. To this day, I remember the blunder. The lesson that I took back then, is imprinted well inside my brain. Never lie, even when you think, you can get away with that, for all lies stink.

I remember to never talk shit if you're not bout it.

A lot of blood was shed in the boy's school bathrooms because of poppin off at the mouth.

Also, never push your luck when gambling. Lost $10 out of $20 playing crabs in school. Thought I could win more. Nope I was wrong.

...my school wasn't necessarily a nice one.

not University but middle school math teacher Mr. feinstein. I hated math but he was amazing.

"Don't be afraid of the numbers just break them down." (while viewing long algebraic formulas)

Numbers don't lie, people lie. 3 + 3 will always be 6 and it will never be anything else."

it was probably too deep for my eighth grade mind, but I never forgot it and I've always recited those quirky things he said.

I learned that if you give a moose a muffin, he'll want some jam to go with it and then when you give him the jam he'll eat all your muffins. In short: dont give a moose a muffin. Make that bastard buy his own. Eating all my muffins....fucking hell, man. My grandmama made me those muffins

She is a troll. I love it

I read the poll as a 'memory stick' like a USB drive. I am disappointed.

Most of the memories that stick with me are unpleasant, but I do remember two computer games I used to play when I was really, really young. At the time I wasn't very knowledge, so the first one I called 'the Shield Game' because that was its icon on the desktop. The second one I called 'Run Game' as in, the game where your units run around. Obviously it was actually just the name of the execute command, lol.

The actual names of the games were Age of Wonders and Command and Conquer, if you were curious. Very good games.

Memory stick hm... I wonder if other people than me use it over the cloud of infinity.
i use it often more than cloud. prefer it that way.

i do have memories that I always remember. i don't want to forget them and occasionally I'll recall it too.

as for memories that taught a lesson:
- Let people know where you're going, especially if you're hanging outside with others. Two memories:
  • Informing parents before running down the street to see relative. This was back when as kids. Saves the panic later.
  • Inform others before going off wandering nearby. So they don't have to look for you when hanging out. Saves the was-waiting-for-you-where-are-you, and me-too!-also-waiting-for-you.
- Recitals and textbook, video, etc. only gets you so far. You may still be unprepared for the Real experience of actual thing.
  • getting a bit lost on way to college despite memorizing it once. also, self doubt and second guessing does not always help. Your second guess may be more wrong than your first idea.

'If life is hard, penetrate it harder.'

A quote from a horny bastard whom actually taught the child me a lesson in speedrunning. In truth, he didn't even know I was clueless in sex at that time and thought it was a gaming technique that I need to master.

To this day, my 'Aggressive Playstyle' would always be reminded that it all started out on a perverted guy wanted to teach me how to date my cousin.

I also have a few quotes that also come from people in my place being horny AF.

'Thrust all your worries and keep pushing yourself' - Me thinking I shouldn't give up when he was talking about peeking at naked girls at the public bathroom.

'Peek both sides of life and never left someone aside' - Me thinking about betrayal in friendships and not about him getting caught cheating with his girlfriend

'The mind of a person is as complicated as one techniques' - Me thinking I should be more thoughtful of my words and not about him not satisfying his girl.

I do have a few more but most of them is something I still couldn't comprehend as of now.
