For fire sub air will be combustion/explosion because compressing hydrogen and igniting it will cause it to combust then explode

For illumination any thing that heat up or given energy will light up that why metal glow if heat up including air
Hm... I like the sub air thingy. Your idea just made me think of metal bending from avatar I don't know why! But it did. Probably metal part which makes me want to add something to the Earth mages. :blob_aww:

In the end mana is just moving thing around
Heat is just molecules vibrated at a fast speed
Air, Earth and water just move molecules around
Fire is just fuel + air + heat
Ice is just stopping water molecules from vibrating
Electric is just moving electron
Light is just photon emitted from electron in an atom if given energy/movement or everyone call heat

:blob_aww:Indeed, it is true. Mana is the ability to move something or freezing it in place. In this case, it influences the different elemental molecules that make every little thing in the living world. You just made me realize how everything just is one big cycle. Even in this world of magic.:blob_melt:

I wonder how your magic system work and what kind of restriction you have on them

I will tell you, well, about this story since Gate is a different magic system. Everyone has a limited amount of mana within their body. Each generation that pool is trickling down to the point that some can't even interact with it anymore. It means their connection to magic was lost. Royals try to keep their bloodlines as pure as they have unlimited pools of magic thanks to their past generational connections to spiritual beings known as Celestials. However, the ones out of these bloodlines don't have the magic pools or connection to these beings. These creatures have been going extinct and replaced by another monster known as reapers that eats everything that has mana within them. But that is more into the story itself. Back to the magic, normal people who still have connections to the world's mana pool can only use magic for brief amounts of time. Even if someone uses all their mana at once, they basically die. One example is a support mage trying to make an elemental barrier to keep these reapers how are elemental from the towns. One barrier crystal basically uses up the life span of that person. It cuts it by years.

This happens because one can only draw out so much mana from the world. These crystals basically store the amount of mana the user places in it so let's say 4 years, that is how long the barrier will stay up. And the person who made it will live 4 years less. It used to be a world where this did not happen, but there was a change and that is where the story takes place. Basically, mages can only use limited amounts of mana unless they are from noble families closely related to the monarchs. Normal short spells though, don't take huge amounts of mana and the body can replenish these small gaps, but if a battle drags on well permanent mana loss will happen, which is why mages try to not use magic unless it is needed or if they have artifacts made by these god-like beasts. This in turn allows the mages to draw energy from the earth itself rather than themselves. But... they are rare and usually run in noble families.:blob_blank:

Hm... I don't know if I explained it right, but I think I did. I guess you can tell me what you think of my system too. :blob_aww:

I can't judge it yet since I didn't read the novel yet but it is an interesting concept

Maybe you could make it possible for the mages in your world to change Light to Darkness, since their just the presence and absence of light respectively, it make total sense if they could change their light magic to dark magic, saving the cost of having to start a new spell in order to use dark or light elements when they have the opposite already in use.

I feel like i explained this extremely bad :blob_popcorn: :blob_cookie:

I laughed so hard when I read the last part! :blob_happy:

Do you mean like being able to shift attributes? Like, be Light and Dark whenever they want?
If so, in this world usually everyone is one attribute. Like within Air only 1 will have electricity and the other will be able to control the wind.

Only fate can tell :blob_wink:
let us hope we all land on a good one
Fate is a fickle little thing, though!:blob_melt:

Less so shift and more so change an active spell to the opposite element, so like, you have a healing spell active, you shift it, it becomes a healing spell for undead instead.

I can see how that won't work however :blob_cookie: :blob_popcorn:

:blob_happy: I love your train of thought, though. Unique!
