I think Niche Authors are those that just follow their heart and just basically don't give a damn about the current trends at all.

Or it can be the Authors who just loves to write in that obscure niche which suits them.

They tend to be relatively unpopular (?) and may not be get the recognition they deserve, but they know that the most important thing is just writing.

I think those people are ones I respect a lot, even more than the big name Authors out there in general, even if I won't know most of them.

Do you consider yourself a Niche Author? What are your ideals in writing stories, in that case?

I'm not sure if my definition is correct, feel free to add your own :D

At this point, yes I'd consider myself a niche author, I basically don't really expect people who check out my story to like it or not and whether they want to stay for the journey or not either. The most important thing for me when it comes to writing is having fun while I'm coming up with what to put next.

For me, I want to try an approach by taking in something that's kind of like joining with the bandwagon (mainstream or trending parts of it) but then instead of staying for the whole ride to some far place, I simply wish to just get to know what goes on, and then ask for a stop along the way and move on alone as I go wander somewhere else or go back home while writing something on my diary/journal as I come up with my own fresh ideas in a sense.

[Now this may or may not make sense but that's pretty much the most simple way I can come up with to elaborate it]

When I thought of what to type here, I'm reminded of two animes that I used to watch (and thoroughly enjoyed till the end)

These are Kino no Tabi and Journey of Elaina, The Wandering Witch.

(The reason why these two exactly? I think it's better off not spoiling what it's all about here and just try and give it a watch in your spare time)

Absolutely!
My goal on this site is to get as many one-star ratings as possible.

i think my life will be much easier if i follow your example. that way i can totally not give a fuck and just write however i want, no matter the place :D

a pity most sites might ban my works lol and i don't like to attract drama from my controversial stuff

Just enjoy writing, that's the best way to keep your passion running.

I do tell myself that I can get on trending whenever I want if I write a generic isekai.
Well, yes, I am a niche autuor, my comedy is just fourth wall breaks.

Yep! I think your definition is spot on. I write what I wish I could read - out of control stories of losers stuck in a weird near future. I can't write anything else. I have no motivation. A small group of people love my shit. Most people pass. I'd still write them even if no one read them.

Also, how do you guys post your books at the bottom of comments? I can't figure that out. So - Ultra A.I.

Honestly speaking - if you look at the tags of my story it is the most cliche combination possible.

Even though most of them weren't intentional at all.

I am a big fan of culture clash. The progenitor of crossovers and isekai. A type of story where two fundamentally different ideologies collide and learn to dance with one another. One of my favourite books is Heinlein's "Stranger in the strange land" for the exact reason.

The second aspect that I can't avoid is realism, or the "actions have consequences" approach. But I employ it in both directions. Both to predict the future events in the story based on the current actions and to develop the word from the original set of rules.

Somehwere in January I sat down to write a tech vs. magic type of story. Simple premise of a technologically knowledgeable MC stuck in the magical world. Over the course of three months of worldbuilding the setting ran away from me in the directions unknown. The presence of magic wreaked havoc on my original society and transformed it into a matriarchal magocracy and then worse.

And it got worse as soon as I started writing. Every single character that i envisioned ran away from me in different directions. side characters clawed their way into prominence while planned heroines disappeared into obscurity. Hell I deleted a 20k word chunk from my story simply because I realised how railroaded and useless it was to the new story.

And here is the kicker - I loved every second of it. I wrote and wrote. And i keep writing even now. I don't care about views, I have no patreons nor any plans on setting them up. I would write it even if I wasn't posting it at all. The only reason i do is to gather opinions, critiques, and possibly give me more ideas to incorporate into the story.

I dunno about Niche. I write kinda mainstream type of stuff. But thats cuz I like that stuff. I stopped giving a fuck about whatever trends a long time ago, if I ever even cared. I ain't gonna mold my writing just to satisfy the wants of some strangers. I write MY kinks.

I think my works used to be popular. I dunno if they still are. I basically quite looking at my stats early on. I do remember my main story was #1 for like 9 tags at one point, then I stopped looking.

Ai-chan would probably qualify as a niche author. After all, Ai-chan writes about lesbian, incest, promiscuity and weird stuff. Does Ai-chan care that not many people are interested? Not really. It's just statistics, after all. Though Ai-chan would really appreciate feedbacks or comments or whatever black stuff you want to give Ai-chan for the chapters.

I really like irony and misunderstands. I also hate stereotypes so I like to twist them when I can for comedy. Giant evil religious associations are boring? Let's make an MC who is blackbellied, meanwhile you have the most devout religious organization possible getting in his way. Humans are evil and stupid in an isekai? Who needs humans anyway. I think most of the people here started writing because they didn't see what they wanted. To an extent that kind of makes everyone niche.

Hmn... I guess I am a niche author? I do follow the mainstream genre but its only because it relates mostly to what my ideas are. I mostly just think up ideas out of nowhere and write them down since I usually have nothing to do sometimes.

My writing skills aren't what you call great since I good ideas but have terrible execution place due to lack of memory to make it great.

The more I write the less it will be good since I tend to rewrite the mistakes over and over again that I tend to abandon them due to that. Most of all, I kinda lack motivation, which the the key to all authors have yet I still have fun writing them without any restrictions.

If I work on a site which forces me to write, I do get productive and produce more chapters available....

Wait, gonna find the disadvantages of that first....

........ I get less creative.... but I'm always creative....

..... the quality gets sht.... no.... i improve the more i fail....

.... sht.... gonna find more negative points in joining a slave company.....

....... sht.....I'm so used to being a slave that my skills would rather improve instead.....

....... Uhhh....

I write cliche more cliche stuff? No.... I tend to make twisted plotline the more cliches i write....

um.....

Ah, I get less sleep instead...... fck. I love sleep.

Well, I like freedom the very least? So, Imma just procrastinate instead...

I am not sure tbh.

Like, my genre technically is niche now. I won't call it obscure, but I think the last remnants of the genre probably fizzled out some five years ago.

I wouldn't say the same if this were like ten years ago when the genre I have was decently popular with a lot of them coming out (I do consider stuff like Shana, Rental Magica, 11eyes, Index, Date a Live, etc. to all be from the same general era).

However, the content in my work is still weeb as hell and filled with tropes from those mentioned shows and such, so I'm not sure if that will disqualify me from the niche category here on Scribblehub. I'm leaning towards considering myself a niche author, all things considered.

As for my ideals, I just want to write what I enjoyed. I grew up absolutely loving those chuuni battle-filled urban fantasies, and I can't wait to try writing one of those myself. Gives me an excuse to draw waifus, too, and I like my waifus to be the more "action-y" types and a part of a pseudo-harem. Bleach is my starter anime, after all.

I miss those days. Supernatural highschool stuff. Harem highschool supernatural stuff too. Things were simpler back then. I still consider 11eyes and Shana to be among the best of their era. And for the harem stuff, Shuffle! And Heaven's Lost Property are my favorites.

We knit really see that anymore. All this...isekai nonsense.

Glad to see a fellow fan here. It's not that I hate isekai or anything, but I just enjoy the (not)harems with supernatural fights a lot more when they happen in the modern world (or some variation of it as seen in a lot of those magic academy harems like Blade Dance or Trinity Seven), with all the modern tech or even the sci-fi elements at play. All while the main characters juggle school stuff along with "muggle" drama with the beach trips, the school festivals, etc.

Then probably later find out their teacher is probably some OP undercover exorcist or something towards the last few arcs :blobrofl: You know the cliche.
