Have you ever wake up from your quick nap have some sort of epiphany and suddenly decided, I want to draw a map!
Well, I did just today. I have some idea on a new fantasy story and then made a world map.

And here it is ..., the map of that fantasy world I have in my mind.

Don't bother with the letters, it's just a random name and existing city/place name I write in the Javanese-but-alphabet writing system.

To be honest, I saw Borneo island there, Scandinavia, minimized South America continent ..., and deformed Java Island.

And again, to be honest, drawing this 'map' didn't really help me with the story. Indeed, it gave me some insight of the world's geography. But the story is not necessarily encompassing all the continent. I just started listing on the events, and the MC never leave his hometown. But meh, I drew the map of the entire continent, anyway.

So what about you guys, have you ever ... drawn a map of your world?

Yes, often. Many of Ai-chan's fantasy stories have an attached map. Even The Hounds of Hell has a school map, though Ai-chan hasn't uploaded it yet.

That being said, your main continent isn't logical. That's not how tectonic plates work.

I remember making one in grade school. I just open ms paint, use bucket for one color and draw the lines with paint and the square shapes to mark cities.

At that time, I was into world building a lot. I was addicted to games like FF8 and Breath of Fire IV. I want to make the Fantasy world like these games. After school, I usually went straight to my PC, open the notepad and scribble a lot just for fun. The internet connection is limited and I don't even know the existence of forums at that time.

While I lost all of the writings, I still remember the bits, and I end up using it to base the world of my future stories.

Though for some reason, I got rather lazy as I grew up, I'd rather focus on lewding anime girls. For now, I guess it's still important so I didn't keep thinking of that pool in my dirty thoughts, I end up getting bored.

No. Because stories take place either in this world or ancient times of this world in a fantasy style.
So you just need to describe the place without the need for any new maps ...

Here's mine. To be honest I don't like drawing maps, so I delayed making one as much as possible. But it's such a basic requirement for planning the events that I had to do it ಥ_ಥ. The rest isn't defined yet, so it's brushed off as unexplored (from the protagonist's faction :P)

I hate maps and I'm directionally challenged but it doesn't stop me from finding my targets and isekai them.

Pretty much. If need be, I'll just use ancient maps of those locations in those times that already exists. World is set in this world for my stories, ofc on some fantasy level but yeah.

Are you my long lost twin? :D
