Do you ever get one star ratings?

Grammar is something I try to avoid. Although I don't consider myself a lover of grammar or anything like that, or that I never have a typo, grammar just feels like it comes naturally to me.

Even when typing online comments on my phone like I am right now, for some reason I feel the need to make sure that everything is correct. I just seem to have an intuition for recognizing wrong grammar.
Yes. If you've read a lot, it happens....

There should be a system like on RR, which would let only rate the book after reading a certain amount of chapters.
second this. why give someone a chance to rate or review if they never even read it before? its like people rating products but they never even bought and tried those products...kinda reminds me why amazon has a verified purchase reviews.
It is hard to know your skill if everybody votes five stars or one star, so either way, ratings like this are toxic in general.
Agreed. Ratings help, reviews would be nicer to see how they really think of a story.
You should not get upset about this. Some people create, others destroy out of jealousy. :blob_no:

Keep on writing and hope for the best :blob_highfive:

To be fair, RR doesn't have such a restriction. All you have to do is open up a chapter and you can immediately rate it. There is no way to gauge whether the person has read it or not.

Agreed. Ratings can be a nice 'pat on the back' sort of thing, but really reviews are what matters where you actually get feedback. Neither site is great for it, but I find RR is a bit better about people wanting to leave reviews for whatever reason.

People have told me my type of work is more popular on RR, but I've gotten very little attention on there.

Well the problem is, if I only have had three votes on my story, and two people vote one star, then it significantly lowers the apparent quality of my work to people.
To be fair, if you have only three ratings on your story and two of them are one-stars, chances are at least one of them is genuine. Unless you had the misfortune of encountering two trolls early on, or someone who bothers with multiple accounts just to bomb stories.

This would be bad for one-shots or stories with few chapters, a requirement to leave a review with a rating would be better I think. Sure, you would have less ratings in general, but it would be much easier to recognise both 1- and 5-star trolls.

Because let's face it, unjustified 5-stars are just as bad 1-stars, except authors especially seem to only care about the latter while ignoring the former entirely and some people go as far as rating 5-stars just because they see a single 1-star rating on a story without even reading it - so as to "balance out the trolls".

Hey, at least you can post your story there.

Honestly, I don't know what counts as a 5-star story.

Well, it just happened. I got my first one-star rating today. :s_eek:
Aw, don't feel bad. Some are trolls and there's always some readers that will find its not their cup of tea. Best that you never give up and show them what you've got. :)

is it even the quintessential ScribbleHub experience if you haven't got one-star'd before?
